my cdrw wont burn at 8X, couldit be a cheapo brand is defunked??

hey all,
i just read someones elses post about something similar and was wondering mayeb you guys can help me out too.
i purchased a cheapo i/o magic 8x4x32 cdrw for 99 way back and i have never gotten it to write at 8x. i have the media that will do it, but it never does. i have tried sony, memorex kingston hypermedia and none work so im thinking that its the cdrw. i use nero, diskjuggler(which allows 6x writing which works fine), and cdrwin and all work fine at 4x but never at 8.

What happens in nero when you try at 8X? Does it start, and then crash? Or what?

no...it finishes the cd like everything went ok..then the cd wont read, either in the cdrw or the cdrom. ive burned some cds where it would read but the info was all corrupt.
