My cdrom does not work?

My cdrom does not show on Windows.
It was working perfectly yesterday.
Now at boot-time it does not detect it.
Nor does it show up in Explorer after it has booted

What shall I do?

I have looked in the Device Manager.
There is no cd-rom icon on this computer, so that must mean it is not detected.

Also there is an Yellow exclamation mark !.
This is on Primary IDE controler (dual fifo)

What shall I do?

Also how come I able to open/close the cd-rom?

I'm assuming your using Win98. I've had similar problems in the past with that OS. It's hit or miss, but I finally fixed it by removing the device under "device manager", and rebooting. Windows should auto-detect the missing device and reinstall it. Anytime you see a yellow "!" in device manager, it means that device has a problem (conflict).

The method above usually solves the problem. As far as your CD drive opening and closing; it has nothing to do with the OS, as long as the drive is "alive" and has power you can open and close it manually despite Windows.

Hope this helps.🙂
