The last few inches of his tail are just..floppy. We called the vet, and we're taking him in Monday..hopefully they won't have to amputate it or anything, and hopefully it won't heal with a kink in it. There is no swelling/blood or anything..it's almost like a flexible toy after the wire inside breaks..

I'll have pics in a minute (nothing graphic..don't worry :p).

Hmm....does it affect the cat's balance?

Make a splint. Use a coathanger and some duct tape or something. I feel bad. :(

No, it doesn't affect his balance (doesn't seem to, anyways)...it's just strange looking.

Pics? If I wanted to see pics of a floppy tail, I'd just look at pics of my ex-wife.

Poor gato.

I remember years ago I came home from school one day to find one of my cats had lost all but about the last inch of his tail. It healed fine but it looked funny.

Same exact thing happened to my cat, only it was an open wound. Vet said it would be expensive to fix and might not work the same. So we had him amputate the whole tale. He looks cute now! He just has a tiny stump at his butt. At first we wanted to cut off just below the wound, but decided that no tail at all is better than a short tail. Plus, how many people do you know that have a cat without a tail? It's cute, when you pet him he wags his tiny little stump! :)

My cat Beverly had to have the last 2 inches of her tail amputated, and was lucky that's all she lost. She was sitting in a doorway looking outside, and a storm blew in very quickly - literally blew in. The doors were open on both sides of the house, and a strong gust came through; she was looking out the screendoor, with the heavy front door open behind her. The door started to slam shut, my mom yelled to Beverly; she turned around, saw the problem, and tried to get out of the way, but the door slammed shut on her tail. We took her to the vet right away, they put some anisthetic stuff on the tail, and then put her under to amputate the tail; the bone was completely crushed in it. She seems to have gotten through it just fine; just has a slightly shorter tail is all.:)
