i think my terminology is correct since i believe on my 96 SS camaro the cat are right under my passenger floorboard and i know that cats are closer to the engine.

so i assume its the muffler in my picture, the driver side connects fine with my exhaust pipe, but my passenger side it came off.

i asked my mechanic about it and he said that it won't dmg the muffler driving like this, but im worried that when it rains, won't water get inside the muffler and dmg it? also he said my gas mileage will be unaffected, along with emissions.

im short on cash which is why if i could get around to fixing it later, i will. but if a cop sees it from behind me which you can, will i get some sort of ticket??

i've noticed that my car got a little louder (a nice louder sound) and also my car feels stronger when i give it gas. i guess its like a free cheap upgrade lolzz.

advice, your thoughts car geniuses.

That looks like just the exhaust outlet pipe rusted out, not the rest of it. It's merely for looks and won't effect smog, pollution, mileage, etc. It may change the tone slightly.

That's just the tail pipe, and no you did not gain any more power for that little bit.

Yeah, don't forget the reason exhaust tips extend beyond the vehicle either. Exhaust leaks under the car are a great way to get headaches or worse.

I lost a co-worker due to an exhaust leak. Pulled over to the side of the road on a cold winter eve, took a permanent nap with the vehicle running for heat.

Remove the dangling pipe and worry about your bald rear tires first.

That piece probably rotted from the inside out because of (normal) moisture content inside the exhaust system.

I might be slightly concerned at the rust occurring at all your welds...what brand is that exhaust? I notice the welds on the muffler case look the same as the ones done during installation. I would expect more from a major manufacturer. Is that just an aluminized system?

Just coat hanger or wire that up somehow if you're short on cash. It's not hurting anything the way it is. Spend your money on rear tires as others have suggested.

You can get exhaust pipe adapters and U clamps from an AutoParts store to solve the exhaust problem. Put one end into where the exhaust pipe separated and the other around the pipe itself.

As to tires- you can get used tires or manufacturer rejects for about half the price or less of new tires. ( I did that for about 4-5 years with "rejects" on two vehicles. Never had a problem)
Use yellow pages or contact a tire shop and ask for them to sell you tires that have decent tread that came off another vehicle.

Mine weren't that bald but I just had them replaced because I had almost no rear traction when the roads were wet. Even cheapo all seasons will do until you can afford something nicer.

That looks like a simple fix any mom and pop exhaust shop could do for under $100
I'd get an estimate at local exhaust place (not a chain)

ok i went to the shop and he said the pipe is fine but it got disconnected on the muffler end, so i can reuse the same tail pipe but need a new muffler.

magnaflow imitation with labor $120. will need money. he did say can get exhaust leak in cabin. had him remove the tailpipe for now.

it has no tread which would make you think it has good traction in dry pavement but no traction in wet. but the compound of the tread is soft, while once the tread is gone, the compound underneath is very hard rubber which is no traction in dry and wet.

but...it handles fine in turns, i just can't gun it from a stop. thanks for you concern about my safety, but i live my life a 1/4 mile at a time. hahahha

honestly, I care more about the safety of others then dumbass drivers that don't maintain their cars. if you crash and kill yourself because you didn't want to spend 50 bucks on some rubber that's not bald. too bad for you.

But your a hazard to everyone else on the road.

Show me where you can spend 50 bucks on tires in a 275/40/17. Pretty sure you can't.

Is that about the distance between parts falling off?
Are you leaving a trail so you can find your way back home?

If you are going to be broke driving around a car that falling apart, at least its a Camaro SS
