My cat is turning into a wall pee'er

This is frustrating. I have a cat that is at least 9 years old...I can't remember exactly how old she is. Anyways, she has recently found that she likes to pee on one of the walls. She's never done this before.

I'm a nazi about keeping the litter box clean and she is for sure litter box trained. I've been wondering if her eye sight is going...she has problems tracking things when they move...but I'm not sure that would result in the wall pissing.

Any idea on how to fix this? Her current litter box has a lid to reduce stink...should I try one without the lid to make it easier on her to find?

HALP!

This is why I dislike cats. Pretty much the only reason really. They seem like fun animals to have around, but I will not have a box fill of shit and piss just sitting in my house.

As for the cat pissing in the house, I've heard from those who own cats that it can often be the cover or a change in the brand/type of kitty litter. If they don't like something about it, they will generally avoid it.

Give your cat a golden shower?

as much as I'm cleaning the carpet now...I would be willing to try it if I thought it would fix it.

And no changes to the litter or litter box. I know cats don't like that. I did get her the new cat food with the meat in the middle...but I don't think that would cause this.

Get her to a vet to first rule out infection. urinary tract infections can make kitties avoid the box because they associate it with pain. Scrub the wall with an enzymatic cleaner like Nature's Miracle. As long as it smells like pee, she'll think it's OK to go there. How many boxes do you have? if it's just the one, consider getting a second. Some like to pee in one and poop in another.

We changed our kitty litter brand one day.
The cats peed and pooped on our couch.

I burned the couch... and now the cats live outside.

That last one, as weird as it seems, a lot of my friends' cats do that.

Or just get a dog. A dog has the good sense to pee outside. ;)

I have one box...always have. Maybe we'll try two just to see.

I'll pick up 2 open top ones tonight along with Nature's Miracle.

Vet as soon as I get a day off :(

Also, kidney problems can cause this. The other problems your cat has may be early signs of kidney failure (very common in cats that age). You can also put another litter box where the cat is going and cover the wall and carpet with some 3M contact paper (that isn't really paper but plastic) to make cleanup easier.

You should have two litter boxes for every cat.

If she's going in the same spot every time, get one of those chair mats with the grippers on the bottom, and put it slick-side-down in the spot where she's going - after thoroughly cleaning there, of course. She won't want to walk on the bumps, so she'll avoid that area.

Another good deodorizer is called OdoBan. It's at Walmart, with the air fresheners. White bottle, green label, better than Nature's Miracle.

What the huh? I hope you don't have more than one or two cats, or perhaps a room in the house dedicated to cat pee and poop. Do you put names on the boxes???

Comments like this, I am glad that I have a dog. No fracking way I'd have 2 or 4 boxes of that crap in my house.

It's just marking what it believes is its territory. In order to show the cat that the walls are yours you must pee on them harder, faster and longer than the cat is able to.
