when I pet the cat I feel lots of static electricity. for example I pet her back and then I touch her ear and it shocks her. she doesnt like it.

Place cat in toilet, it on lid, flush to power wash. Carefully remove cat (thick gloves and arm guards recommended) and place in dryer. Dry on medium for 1 hr with dryer sheet.

That's OK, the addition of the dryer sheet will make all the difference in her level of statickyness.

I'd check that with a separate hygrometer. Electric cats are a tell tale sign that the humidity is low.

When it gets really cold I have to turn down the humidity or my windows turn into ice makers, and my cat gets staticy too. Not much you can do but turn the humidity up, but you want to be careful not to get too much ice build up on the windows, which then turns into mold. Oddly my cat kind of likes it when I pet her and it gives her shocks. I can hear and feel the shocks, it's almost like petting a van degraff generator.

Our cats like their belly rubbed, so its constant zaps on the kitty nips. They don't like it, but they seem to get used to it. I've thought about using an antistatic mat (conductive plastic with a wrist band) but it would need to make skin contact, not fur only on the cat, and they are both lazy slugs who no doubt prefer laying down and getting zapped to standing paw pads down.

Banana plug as ground connection not a good idea.
