Throw the cat in the dryer with a couple of dryer sheets. That works every time.

Use this as a leash. It's a static strap.

she's already dry.

the interesting thing is that it only shocks her when I touch her ear or her nose.

Place cat in toilet, it on lid, flush to power wash. Carefully remove cat (thick gloves and arm guards recommended) and place in dryer. Dry on medium for 1 hr with dryer sheet.

Check the humidity. Once it falls below 30% they become progressively more staticy.

That's OK, the addition of the dryer sheet will make all the difference in her level of statickyness. :p

Maybe only her ear and nose are grounded...you COULD drive a ground stake and attach it to this:

Rest your non-petting hand somewhere on the cat, and push a finger against the cat's skin.
Enjoy no-zap petting.

I like pissing my cat off at times when it's dry enough that you get a lot of static and pet it the wrong way to cause even more.

Then it proceeds to maul my hand so we are on fair grounds.

i have it set as hi as it will go - 45%. nneed to figure out how to overclock this thing.

I'd check that with a separate hygrometer. Electric cats are a tell tale sign that the humidity is low.

lol..my older kitty is like that. I always get shocked petting her. The younger one, not usually.

Just another reason to hate winter.

When it gets really cold I have to turn down the humidity or my windows turn into ice makers, and my cat gets staticy too. Not much you can do but turn the humidity up, but you want to be careful not to get too much ice build up on the windows, which then turns into mold. Oddly my cat kind of likes it when I pet her and it gives her shocks. I can hear and feel the shocks, it's almost like petting a van degraff generator.

Ours are doing the same thing. It's just that time of the year I guess.

If you have central ventilation and a whole-house humidifier, make sure it's working.

Our cats like their belly rubbed, so its constant zaps on the kitty nips. They don't like it, but they seem to get used to it. I've thought about using an antistatic mat (conductive plastic with a wrist band) but it would need to make skin contact, not fur only on the cat, and they are both lazy slugs who no doubt prefer laying down and getting zapped to standing paw pads down.

Banana plug as ground connection not a good idea.

Anti-static carpet for the whole house!! I wonder why regular carpets aren't made anti-static by default.

The problem is you have a cat. Get rid of the cat. Presto! No staticky cat. Problem solved.
