My cat has once again amazed me with her gluttony

The other day I was making chili (wasn't that great...I forgot most of the spices and the sausage) and I was opening up the cans of beans. When I started the can opener, my super fat cat started meowing like never before. I thought maybe the sound upset her because she is old and sensitive. I stopped and pet her to get her to calm down. When I started the can opener back up, she started back up twice as loud. Well WTF?

So I look over at her and she is staring at her food bowl. It was nearly full and so was her water. Whatever, stupid cat. I go back to my beans and she makes it impossible to carry on. Finally I decide maybe somehow she associates the can opener with soft food. I had bought some a while ago thinking I could get her on a diet and she wouldn't touch the stuff. So I popped open a can for her and she shut up and devoured the whole thing.

WTF? The cans I bought weren't the kind you opened with the can opener. I'm the only one who's ever owned her and I have never fed her that kind of food. The time I tried was my first ever attempt at soft food.

So are cats born with the can opener instinct? Or does mine have some special Garfield gene?

and yes...real chili has beans

my cat can literally let himself in the back door, and does, it seems on a schedule.. (door doesnt latch, can be pushed open with his head)

he also uses the toilet.. not kidding at all..

i've also seen him drink from it.. so that kinda cancels that one out lol

My cat's will sit on my mouse hand so I car barely move it around the pad. Plus cat hair get under it and screws up my gaming. They take turns sitting on my hand staring at me, if I ignore them too long they start clawing my hand.

This is the reason why we keep a little spray bottle near where I prep food. one or two spritzes of water in the face and the cat learns. The GF and I have a fat cat as well who loves people food and is underfoot when we cook.

Hair under a mouse is easy to clean. Thank goodness for optical mice. What really sucks is when it gets inside the scroll wheel mechanism.

She considers herself human, actually no, she considers you a lesser form of cat. So when she sees you using the opener to prepare your meal, even if you've never given food that she's seen you open from a can in this manner, she'll associate it with food. And since she's the most important living being in the household in her eyes, she expects a treat or tribute. If you know your place in the cat hierarchy, you will feed her or she'll exact her revenge when you least expect it. Plus there's the association between her sense of smell and the sound of the can opener.

One can of pinto and one can of black beans in my fucking awesome 3 meat chili. Plus a shit ton of spices.

Both my cats will go bonkers if they hear a jar being opened, they associate it with green olives. They just love them.

One of my cats will actually beg for cashews but won't even any other nuts.
