MY CAT HAS BEEN STAKING OUT THE FRIDGE

So my cat has been lingering around the kitchen today specifically near the fridge. I figured something was hiding under or behind it.
Recently my neighbor cleared out all of the brush between our houses and I knew he would be driving out the "wild life" that once called this brush home.

I went to the store and when I got home the cat was still chillin by the fridge. I decided to try and scare whatever it was behind my fridge. I grab a broom and start whacking the wall and floor around the fridge nothing coming out, meanwhile my cat is pacing in front of the fridge. I move the fridge a bit away from the wall, still nothing.

I give up and push the fridge back against the wall and I hear a squeak and a crunch.....
I look between the wall and the fridge and I see a tail....
Looks like a rat....

How long should I wait for it to die before I move the fridge and dispose of it?

Just pull out the fridge and let the cat finish it off/eat it.

Or just skin/gut it, and grind up the meat and make a Rataburger.

I once had two huge rats living near the compressor of the fridge - inside the black backing.
We 'disposed' them with a stick and a tall lamp shade.
These critters were nasty and jumped pretty high.

Or into the blender. Nothing like a tasty Rat Smootie for your cat.

u dont want to wait too long because a dead rat will decompose and it will start to smell bad.

Anyhow

Rat = 0
Fridge = 1
Cat = kicking the can.

If I were you I'd go buy a few mousetraps. Bait each with a little cheddar cheese or peanut butter, set and place in hidden spots like behind the fridge, under the stove. Check from time to time if they've caught anything.

When you have one mouse enter your house, the could be others, too. Watch for little black lumps shaped like rice grains but smaller. Mice will leave droppings wherever they go, so a trail of them will tell you where they have been, and maybe their paths.

When a mouse showed up in our house, our cat thought it was fun to watch, it was so active! But being a lifelong housecat, he wasn't really interested in attacking it. Not the same as a previous cat who used to spend a lot of time outside. That one would catch mice and bring home the dead critters to shop off proudly.

A dead rat is going to make your whole kitchen smell rancid. Then you'll know.
