my cat has 6 toes *PIC*

does anyone have the name for these types of cats, how rare are they, do people usually have to buy them? this cat just wondered over about 3-4 years ago and i guess its mine now. just proves that if you feed an animal, it will never leave.

Cats with 6 toes are common in Key West. Hemingway had some, and so some people now call 6-toed cats "Hemmies".

Look it up on Google, I am sure there is something out there about it. Just a little genetic quirk is all.

Yeah, I went to Key West last year and went to Hemingway's house. All of his cats are still there - about 60 of them. BTW, 6 toed cats are called polydactyl.

My cat has 6 toes also.

When she has kittens and mates with a regular 5-toed cat, the kittens come out all sorts of ways. Some have 6 in the front, 4 in the back; others have 5 and 5 like a normal cat; some have up to 7 toes (no joke) and 4 in the back; and sometimes the toes don't form all the way and its just a pink "thing" with a claw.
