eVGA 7600GT ($165.99, $145.99 AR)

eVGA is a solid brand (the other great nVidia brand is BFG). The X1800GTO is $50 over your stated budget and it isn't priced higher because it performs better - it's just more costly to manufacture and performs on par/below the 7600GT. I say stick with nVidia not because you have an nVidia mobo, but because 7600GT is just simply, a better card. Yes, you miss out on HDR+AA in a few games - ask yourself if this is important to you. Even then, HDR+AA is probably best done by an X1800XT/X1900GT and above.

The next decent step-up is a $220 Sapphire X1900GT which is rumored to hit $200 very soon (other brands haven't been quick to drop prices). Then, there is a $240 BBA X1800XT 256MB or a $270 eVGA 7900GT. But these are all way over your budget.

The X1900GT when it hits $200 will be pretty awesome - and the X1800GT will likely be discontinued. For now, my vote is for the 7600GT. Here is a review.

(All prices are from Newegg for Retail products)

thanbks. I even found it on Tiger Direct with a price of 165, with a 25 dollar rebate. with 7 dollar shittping, its nearly 20 dollars cheaper than newegg- thats certainly a first.

I'd buy from NewEgg personally over TD. And plus your math seems a bit off. If TD is $165 with a $25 MIR = $140 after MIR + $7 shipping, that's like $147. The Newegg link I provided would be a little less than $5 more and typically have more reliable rebates, though I've heard TD has improved upon their past reputation with rebates. I'd spend the $5 extra and go with Newegg.

uh, my 6800xt idles at 52C at 100% fan. the fan doesn't bother me THAT much at 100%, but it is quite annoying, thats why when its in 2d mode, i have it set at 85%.

I'm sure now that there was a problem with it. It had rendering issues (black squares in CSCZ.... It was too hot, and the fanspeed was not bale to be contorlled by nvidia's software, rivatuner, or atitool.....

I rma'd it, and shipped it yesterday, and did the right thing by ordering the 7600gt from newegg. They estimate a one day delivery once shipped, and it was shipped sometime between 12am est last night and when I woke up. I might have it today, or tomorrow. In the mean time, I put the x800se from my mom's dell in, and with it fully overclocked it runs at 50* idle and 56 max. A bit warmer than in the dell, but tis sitting amongst a bunch of pci cards that give of a lot of heat.....
