i have to steer it off center to the left in order for it to drive straight.
i'm guessing i need an alignment?

what happens if i don't feel like forking over $50 for an alignment.
will it harm the car/tires any?

Get the alignment done ASAP, you'll destroy your tires driving it misaligned.

The steering wheel could be off (they're easy to pull off, & hard to get back on exactly right), but most likely it's alignment.

It could also be a bent rod, have either of your front tires hit anything recently?
Most likely an alignment problem.

Yeah, get one of those jobbies with the furry cheetah patterns. I bet that will fix it right up.

Rotate your tires. Make sure the psi is right.
If it has IRS, get a proper 4 wheel alignment.
If you drive in wet or snow a misaligned car can add
to handling problems.

IRS= independent rear suspension...................:sun:

Where do you live? In the midwest we have a slight crown to the roads so if you drive in the right lane, you have to steer slightly to the left and if you drive in the left lane (on a freeway, not just randomly) then you have steer slightly to the right.
