My car was just vandalized (seriously)

I parked my 92 Jeep cherokee on the corner to sell it and recieved my first call from a potential buyer who asked me if I knew that the back window (rear door) was smashed out. WTF, I drove up there and sure enough it was busted out. Decided to drive across the street to the car wash to vacuum up the glass. Started it up and it ran like crap, pulled out and noticed that the hood was flopping around. Turns out someone removed a part from under the hood. on the 4.0 L the heater hoses run from the front of the engine back to the firewall (heater core) and there was some sort of contraption that the heater hoses connected to (before the firewall). They cut this part out. It was black plastic and had a few extra "lines" running to it. Now I have no idea what this part is called and I do not see it in the Hayes manual.

This really pisses me off. Any idea what this part is?

Wow, that really sucks....

I'm not sure about your missing part, that sounds a little odd. I have had a couple wranglers with the 4.0 and I don't recall the heater hoses going "through" anything?!? But you're saying that you drove across the street and when you got there there was coolant pouring out of the engine?

My guess is the thermostat? Does your heat still work? Maybe be a little specific. Like does you car leak coolant because coolant goes through those hoses you described and if a part were missing it could leak. Sorry to hear about it, at least you were selling it though. GL

No no coolant was sprewing, jeep did not heat up enough for the thermo to open. Since the hood was not shut I investigated and noticed that the part had been cut out of the hoses (4 cuts). Called the wife and she brought me a screwdriver. I bypassed the heater core with what was left of the heater hose and crove the mile back to the house. I am going to the salvage yard Saturday to find some replacement glass and see if I can find this part. I would rather buy it new, whatever it is.

Could be the thermostat, however I have never seen one mounted inline the heater hoses. Heat does not work as I had to bypass the heater core with the remaining salvagable hose.

On the bright side, I do love the salvage yard.

They smashed the window to pop the hood. They knew what they were looking for. They did not touch the interior. Cd player still intact.

Could be some sort of controler for the heat. I would take a picture but is getting late in my neck of the woods, and I do not have anywhere to upload it too. I anyone is really interested in seeing it (which I doubt) I could do it tommorrow.

I am searching that jeep forum for a pic that might help.

Funny, when I posted this I was careful to get my description correct after that last vandalism thread.

Don't most thermostats mount to the engine block any more?

what corner did you park it on? There's some fvcking truck on our corner taking up a parking lot for sale and I KNOW they don't live anywhere nearby. Makes me want to damage it 😛

(I wouldn't do that)

Get it towed. 🙂

I live way out in the country, unless you are a serious southern redneck, I doubt you have seen my Jeep. Sadly enough I moved out of the city to escape the crime. Crack is whack, ya know
