My car was hit by flying debris from a truck...any recourse?

I was driving on the 401 above Toronto on Sunday night, when a piece of tire from a load of blasting mats (cut-up tires made into mats) fell from a truck and strick the side of my car. With nowhere to maneuver, I just took the glancing hit and kept on driving, and my wife took the down the plates and contact information from the truck and trailer.

The damage is not beyond the paint, but it is not buffing out.

If I call the company, will they just laugh at me, or do I have any recourse in Canada for this type of damage?

I realize that a lawyer is the best source, but perhaps someone here has a similar experience. No keying references, please ;)

Not just rubber, I'me sure the was some metal involved by the mark it left. But this was a sizeable chunk of tire we're talking about.

Simple, it scraped down the side of my car. I thought it would miss, and I didn't have much time or room to move anyway.
