My car needs to be repainted

A few years ago, I bought my car, 96' Nissan Maxima SE, got a greal deal on it.
Anyways though, I was upset because the color was gold and I wanted it to be black, so I figured I'd get a cheap MAKO paint job for it (I was in highschool and still an idiot)

Anyways, as you can imagine now the paint is chipping off quite a bit. Especially around window edges, other edges, and the front bumper. Right now the car has 117,000 miles on it.

So I'm going to repaint the car, but this time I'm going to get it done better. But the other thing is that I'm a college student, so I want to get this done for cheap. Maybe do some of it myself (such as the sanding it down, and maybe priming it, and then sending it in to MAKO for them to finish the job)

There are a few rust spots. one on the very bottom of the car on the right side, and the other is up by the trunk near the spoiler

I'll post some pics, and maybe you guys can help me decide the best route:

THE FRONT BUMPER:

THE BACK RUST SPOT:

In the mean time, I'm thinking maybe it would just be a good idea to buy a can of spray paint, sand down, and redo the front bumper. That would help a lot.

WTF, you didn't learn the first time, how will MAKO do it better this time?

mako didnt sand or prime it the first time. but the paint job itself wasnt so bad, it was just that they didnt do any good preparation.

therefore, im thinking about doing the preparation myself, and then having them paint it.

Bumper is common. Should have had the prep done to stop the rust.

Unless you know what you are doing I wouldn't prime it. Well maybe a first coat and a guide coat. Let them finish it.

do it your self man first remove the paint you can scrape it off get a paint remover or sand it off then prepare the car for the primer get some sandidng paper 600 will do good and get to work when you are finished if there are any little holes or anything use some kit on it te sand it off again till its smooth then paint iw with the primer do that 3 times then get a black spray ang just spray it a little all over till you see a lot ov black dots on the primer get some sanding paper 800 or 1000 will do best get some water as you sand spray it with water sand untill the black dots from the primer are gone and the car feels like glass the paint it 2 or 3 times depends and use some Clear Coat on top of the color but make shure you dont let that drip so be careful.

i dont really know too much about automotive paint to be honest: but i dunno about how well of a prep job you would do if you're prepping the car yourself. Plus between getting the car to them after you've prepped it, leaves room for dust/particles to be blasted into your car at whatever speed.

also a MAKO paint job again? i might try finding a different place to do it, a local shop. Shop around at least.

That rust spot under the spoiler will be a breeze to fix yourself....even if you have the paint shop fix it, it would take them minutes to do.

Bump,

PS: the car has 117,000 miles on it. If that has any impact on what you guys think I should do with it in terms of painting it.
