Glad you're ok. I just hope you have uninsured motorist insurance and gap insurance on your car... It saved me on my last accident. (didn't need gap though)

First, good to hear you are okay.

Second, wake up. He was drunk, he fled, no insurance, and warrants for his arrest. He should have been arrested! Sounds like it was his fault. Sue him in civil court for the damage to your car and lets hope his ass goes to jail. Drunk drivers who flee a scene need punnishment.

Careful, some people here might accuse you of being the drunk that pulled out in front of the other guy... cause you know like drunk drivers really only like account for like 1% of all accidents, duh.

LMAO
Are you sure about that 1% now? I thought it was 2% or maybe 1/2% but only bteween 11 and 4 AM on alternate Thursdays and just a little over the limit but not really drunk and not involving bodily harm with the driver walking away and only if they read their breathalyzer meters correctly and I think you had to be a MADD member with a shotgun, or something along those lines. :D

Glad you're okay, Ikonomi.

He was really nice... But... He told me he had a passenger who fled the scene right after we hit (I was still sliding or getting out of the car, I guess). But then he decided to run because he had no driver's license (I hear this from my father, because it happened while I was in the ambulance), and apparently got into a truck that pulled up. The police officer who came to the scene apprehended them at the next freeway.

And then apparently he had no insurance and several warrants out for his arrest.

I don't want a lot of money. I just want enough to pay off my car. I'm not angry or anything, just thankful that I'm okay.

It sucks that he got arrested.

thats insane.
but at least you are fine.

hats off to you for not trying to take this guy for all he is worth. (which, considering the situation, probably isnt that much).

Look. Speaking from experience as a police officer myself, he was only nice to you because he thought he might be coming up on murder charges or at least vehicular manslaughter if the POS had managed to pull down an okay public defender. This guy will get nothing less than he deserves for what he did. Also, you were going the speed limit at the point of impact, right? ;) This guy is 100% at fault here, don't try to blame yourself at all. Also, let the police traffic accident investigators determine speeds of the vehicles involved. I applaud you for your sincerity and honesty, but this guy MUST be removed from the streets. There is no doubt in my mind that he's got at least one prior for DUI and actually done it more times than dollars in my bank account right now without getting caught (and I just got paid w/ overtime).

Also, to anyone else. When involved in anything but a small fender bender in a parking lot, ALWAYS go to the hospital unless medical personnel on scene state that you don't need to. When involved in something like this, your body released tons of adrenaline and endorphines to "prepare itself" for what happened. Because of this, often times you can't feel any pain from the majority of your injuries. You WILL hurt tomorrow and probably more the day after that. If you notice any bruising, from the safety belt or any other areas, have someone photograph it for record. You never know how your skeletal system has been jolted and the long term effects of it. I'm not telling you to find an ambulance chasing lawyer or anything else, but this stuff can be serious. Hope you feel better and stop worrying about the perpetrator. He's gonna get exactly what he deserves from this.

EDIT: with the photos, make sure you can date/timestamp the photos directly. If not, and you're using a disposable or standard film camera, make sure that you take them same day to get developed and keep the receipt for processing for your record to maintain a good time record.

wtf dude? he's drunk, driving, with no license or insurance, and flees the scene and you're sorry that he got arrested?????

I was thinking the same thing.

I think it's good that you aren't pissed about what happened and are more just sad about your care, but don't feel bad about this piece of sh!t that caused the accident. He deserves everything he's going to get (including the arrest).

Not being pissed is one thing, but being sorry that the guy was arrested is just insane.

I am glad that you are ok. And I am sorry about your car.

The drunk driver was an azzhole for being behind the wheel. I agree with Rogue, this is probably not his first time. He is in a world of trouble right about now. I wonder why the 'passenger' fled the scene. Must have had a lot of stuff dogging him.

Keep us updated on what happens here. I am sure there will be court dates and such, and I want to know what these idiots get for causing this.

:)

I wish I had your outlook. If something like this happened to me, I'd be out for blood. Glad your OK!:)

It's good that you're not hurt and it's noble that you're not pissed at the other driver, but seriously, beware of injuries. I was in a car accident this spring that was, from all outward appearances, minor (T-boned a car at 30 mph, not my fault at all), and I felt fine, but the next day my wrist was REALLY really sore b/c I'd had it on the horn when the airbag deployed.

The adrenaline and excitement is probably masking a lot of pain for you now. Just beware that when you wake up tomorrow, you'll likely be hurting a lot more.

That is one of the wierdest feelings, to be helpless without any control of what happens. Everything kind of slows down. I can't say that I have ever been upside down though, crazy!

This thread is strange. I've read it 10 times through and not once did Ikonomi say that the other driver was drunk. Everyone just seems to assume it. Very odd.

Anyway, sorry to hear what happened. My sister wasn't so lucky yesterday morning. She got clipped by another driver (who fled and was never seen again) and sent into the median barrier on the freeway at ~55 mph. Ending up spending all day at the hospital yesterday. She'll be alright, but she looks like she went the distance with Ali only to lose every round by decision...

I think you should have stayed in the hospital. It doesn't sound like you're right in the head

i'm going to have to agree here.

Seriously. What sucks is that it would be illegal to just off that guy on the spot. He obviously doesn't offer much to society and will probably never be able to make good on any damages for which he is responsible.

Hey Vic, I'm really sorry to hear about your sister. That really sucks that the other driver wasn't found... bleh.

My dad and I went to the junk yard where they took my car, but it's closed weekends. I'd have really liked to see what the damage was.

Damn.. :Q

Glad she's OK.

Cars are so scary. If there was a practical, safe alternative.. I'd use it.

I guess I can be thankful I have a 1/2 ton Chevy PU as an automobile, even if it does get sh!t for MPG.. lol
