OMG. that's nuts.
Those are new, though, and you can probably get a refurbished unit from an Aut0zone or the like. If all else fails, call some junkyards to see if they have any Aspires.
If not, and we're really reaching at this point 🙂, possibly the aspire shares it's fuel pump with another more easily located Ford model, such as the Escort, etc.

What year car is it you have?

Who cares if you can't go strait (or even go 😀), at least you look cool.
I drove a 305 caprice through a winter once... man, that was some scary stuff.

🙁 After further testing and elimination of the filter via a BIC pen 😉 , looks like Fuel pump.......
1) Verified the fuel pump is getting power
2) removed the fuel line from the fuel rail and put it into a clear container.
3) turned on ignition and also tried hotwiring the pump, there is NO fuel being pumped into the container.

FVCK!!!! is all I can say. Now I am at a crossroads.......

~$400 or so on a fuel pump for a car that isn't worth $400 and may not last 6 more months before another MAJOR failure

or

Spend $$$$ on another car that I really can't afford right now.

DAM CARS!!! They should run forever 😉

Hit up your local junk yards... No point in spending 400$ on a new one if the car isn't worth it.

that's the next plan, I've found a reman online for $100 which isn't bad. The junk yards are next.

Why pay $100 for a used one without a warrenty when a new one cost $188 with a warrenty?

Slavage yards and used parts are a last resort, like they don;t make it and I really need it.

Spend the $200 for a new pump and fuel filter and be done with it.

Not that easy, the $288 one requires a load of other parts to be purchased with it to keep the warranty. no matter what, a new one is going to total $400ish if I want a warranty.

Why get the $288 one if it doesn't include a warranty?
Might as well get a $100 reman or junkyard one as long as it will work.

I thought you said $188??? And all they require is either a fuel strainer(if in gas tank) and/or fuel filter if Ext. So add that up to around low $200's.

How are you getting $400????

$188, you're right. Typo.

They require a new strainer, filters, sending unit or some crap. It will be well over the $200 mark. I called autozone to ask about the warranty since it's not really clear on the site and the guy explained everything I had to get. He said, the sum of parts usually adds up to more than the "kit" cost, which is about $400

If I can get a reman or junkyard one that for sure works, I'll take the chance and just start saving now for a replacement car.

<EDIT> I'm gonna start calling around monday and see what my options are. Maybe they'll warranty that the pump alone will at least work or something. I'm highly bebating on putting $200 into the car though.

According to Autoz0new's site, it should be about $220 with the strainer and such.

Although the remanufactured one may be the way to go anyway, especially if you may replace the car in 6 months. Besides, remans often times have warranties.

*crosses fingers*

I'm hoping to get out of this cheaply. My original plan was to keep it going for 6-9 more months and replace it if possible. I'd just hate to try and squeeze out more $ from the budget to replace it now. Hell, drop in a $100 or so remanned pump and drive it to a dealer may still be the way to go.

Who makes a reman fuel pump? All the ones I have ever seen are Brand new. Mind you some larger heavy duty ones, esp. Diesel, might be rebuildable. But for a compact car I have not heard that?

Now a used one that has been wipped off and tested, OK, but thats NOT remaned, thats just a used oned that has been clean.
Now if it comes with a one year warrenty then yes go with it, if not spend the $200 or so and go new.

Also with the new one all you need is the Pump and a starainer. That will give the warrenty. I buy a good 50% of the parts for my shop from autozone and thats all that is required.

Good luck.

There was a few ford auto parts stores online that have a "reman" for $100. They are probably used/cleaned but if they have any kind of warranty, that's good enough for me.

Update thanks to a local car club guy!

i know fords and some gm that if there dead if you turn the key to on and hit the tank as hard as you can with a 2x4 you can get the pump going, just don't turn it off or else you'll have to smack it again
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I whacked it good with my SK breaker bar (It has a rubber handle so I didn't hit metal to metal) and the pump started running! It filled up my gas "catch bottle" 1/2 way in no time. I shut the key off and tried again and it still works! I shut it off and on a few times to see if it would stop again but it hasn't yet.

At least I now Know for sure what the problem is! I think i'm gonna go ahead and drive the car but carry the breaker bar just in case. I know it may die again "for good" but I just don't have the $ to replace the car yet. Maybe this will buy me some time.........

Maybe if I take out the pump and give everything a good cleaning to remove rust/debris, you think the pump may be salvageable and I can avoid buying one? I mean the strainer, gaskets and etc along with a cleaning of everything is low cost compared to the pump!
