my car hit a curb

there was a pretty big snow storm in minnesota in the last couple of weeks. so, i'm driving and the tail lost traction and the rear-right wheel hit the curb. i checked the wheel and it does not look crooked or anything. however, everytime i drive on the freeway, the road noise is louder. anyone know what happened? maybe a bent the axle or something. 🙁

Sounds like wheel bearings.
But really, after a hit like that you should go and have your car checked for alignment.

so i'm assuming the part(s) has to be replaced. about how much does it usually cost to get it fixed and for an alignment. i scheduled an appointment next week at the dealer.

yeah, if you're driving and it sounds like a freaking muffler with a hole in it then it's our wheel bearings

have it replaced and get alignment. last thing you want is out of spec camber/toe.

There's no way anyone here can make an estimate because we have no idea what could be bad. Could need any of the below:

-control arm
-trailing arm
-subframe
-shock or strut
-wheel
-hub
-tire

Could even need some frame pulling. Take it to a quality mechanic and tell them what you did. Have them replace all bent/broken parts. Then take it to get aligned. Let the guy know what you did, so that if he finds that the numbers aren't working out or is requiring more adjustment than normal, you can take the car to a frame shop to have it pulled.

One of my friends lost traction on a left turn (in snow), fish-tailed, and struck the right rear wheel against the curb.

The car (a Jeep Cherokee) started making noises rom the impacted area...

He ended up first replacing the bearings & some other parts, and the rear axle was bent. The shop straightened the axle, it worked for a while, then went bad.

Total cost after it was all fixed: well over US$2000.

You should get it checked soon.

FWIW

Hey man. You should really go and have a mechanic check your car out. Its virtually impossible for us to pinpoint the actual damage that might've happened. We can only speculate.

if the repair cost more than the insurrance deductable, can i claim my insurrance and have them for it? wouldn't this raise my insurrance rate even though it was an accident?
