For 23 Gs, I'd rather get an 3.5 Altima, WRX or an acura RSX type S. Or maybe even the notorious type R once the stateside gets it.

Don't care how fast the cooper is, not my kind of ride. It just says 'fruity man's car.' I'd definitely buy a Camaro Z28 or a mustang GT before buying a cooper.

Yes, I know the cars aren't supposed to compete, but IMO, everything that costs the same is competing for my money. :p

Hehe :D

Mini Cooper S starts at around $19,500 and you can get it for about $22,800 with GPS, Xenon lights, and full length sunroof

Not bad for a novelty type car at all, but I would definantly yank the Xenon lights, those are just worse for other drivers is all, if you cant see at night, get your eye's checked ;)

btw your altima is supposed to hit 60 in 8.1sec.

4 speed auto v6 2002 altima gets 7.3 sec:p now if u added a supercharger or turbo... ;)

Mini Cooper is a one hit wonder. Just like the new Beetle. Just like PT cruiser. It was selling like hotcakes first year too, and now it's yesterday's news.
Just wait one year, and you will be getting a Mini for well below MSRP.
If you want a brittish car look get a Miata.

$23,000 for a nicely equipped Cooper S is getting dangerously close in price to a couple of superior cars, those being the Subaru WRX and the Mercedes-Benz C230 Sport Coupe.

Both of those cars have similar (if not superior) performance and can fit more than 2 suitcases in the trunk.

The Mini does NOT have a Neon engine. The engine was co-developed between Daimler-Chrysler and BMW and is of a brand new design.

Get back to me in a year. People said the same thing about the Miata over ten years ago but it's sales have remained constant over the years. The Mini has something that the Miata has and what the PT Cruiser and New Beetle DON'T have. It is GOOD at what it does. It doesn't make any false pretenses and it is what it is. It's not slow, it's a good value for the money and it handles like a go kart. Both the PT Cruiser and New Beetle are based of existing car platforms and have to adhere to those strict formulas (for the New Beetle, it's the Golf platform which makes the reach to the windshield impossible at best from the seat). The Mini is a purpose built machine and THAT is the reason why it WILL do good b/c it doesn't make an consessions. As far as being small and impractical...it's more practical than a Miata.

0-60 comes up in about 6.9 seconds for the Cooper S that is a lame 0-60 time

Compared to what? An SVT Focus? A Spec-V? It's faster than both.

People in the market for a Mini will not cross shop a WRX or C230. It's the same reason that Miata buyers don't cross shop 350Z's and Camaros. And the Mini is faster than the C230 coupe and has a much better interior. Mercedes dropped interior quality a bit on the C230 coupe to get the lower price point. And don't think that you're going to get a well equipped C230 coupe for under $25,000.

well we had more people in the car (3 , and two of my friends are overweight i'd say, vs his one guy in a car that weighs A LOT less). i read somewhere my car is supposed to get 7.9 for a manual and 9.1 0 to 60 for an auto like mine.

nissan started this thread.. i drive an altima, and i got owned. granted its not the new altima.

also i think the spec -v is the ugliest car nissan currently sells. that thing is just horrid looking, just its somewhat fast, but i think its uglier than even the mini cooper.

i suppose if i realy wanted a fun drive around town car , i'd get a rag top mr2 or something. i hear those are fun to drive. doesnt look as bad as the mini. i also heard the mini cost so much because of dealer markup, and that the waiting lists were 3 months long. thats ridiculous.

the c230 is the like , el cheapo of benz'es. for the $25k or so a mini S would cost you right now if you had to buy one, there are a lot of better cars. i'm sure the mini S has a far better interioir than the new altima though, the altima interiors are just cheap, but they have good drive trains and engines. thats nissan - driven for you... its not nissan - comfort, or nissan - the plastic stuff on your car doesnt break. (so far on my nissan, broken license place holder, one time i hit a rough bump and the rear license plate light actually popped out, one of the sun visor clips broke, a door handle broke, radio knob broke, etc. the engine runs great though... thats nissan for you. )

I agree on the Spec-V. That thing is fooking ugly. Easily the most hideous of the Nissan lineup.

And I think the MR2-Spyder looks like a frog;)

Ok people
whats up with all this?

Altima, maxima whatever-ima theyre all midsize sedans. No real performance there, maybe little more fun to drive than the usuall but thats it. (245hp and under 300lbs is not bad)
The new mini seems to have quite a bit of punch for its size, but i dont see it too sporty either.

The Altima 3.5SE is damned fast for its size and can zip 0-60 in 6.3 seconds.

The Mini Cooper S is about the best handling FWD chassis you can get next to the SVT Focus and the Acura CL Type-S 6-speed.

All depends on your taste- to each his own.

I have what's gonna sound like a really silly question here.

Has anyone here actually driven a new Mini-Cooper S?
How about an original Mini-Cooper?

Please fill me in on your test drives, unless you are just parrotting what you have read in Consumers Digest.

LOL the other day I pulled up at a stoplight to some kid who looked like he was 14 driving a mini Cooper S. I looked at him and gave him the thumbs up, and he looked back at me, closed his eyes and nodded like some old fart in ascot being complimented on his 300ft yacht. It was pretty funny...

MITSUBISHI ~ OWNED!!! :p[/quote]

by what? the celica? the eclipse gts/gst/gsx will beat it and you don't have to drive it like you stole it to get to the power curve. the spec-v? the eclipse gts/gst/gsx will beat it. the altima, maxima, or wrx? the evo will beat them.

mitsu might be lacking in overall quality, but the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gen eclipses kick ass, the 3000gt also, and the evo... well, we'll wait and see what the evo does. mitsu makes some quality engines.
