My car got jacked today

I have a 96 Mercury Sable. I just found out that some dumbass car thief tried to jack my car. He busted the passenger side door locks and yanked the ignition out of the steering column. He completely busted up the ignition. He must have messed with the wiring cause the battery is dead too 🙁 I can't even start the car.

How much is this going to cost me to fix? I think my insurance deductible is 500.
Has this happened to anyone else?

I wish I caught that mofo while he was trying to jack my car. He would be in the ICU right now.

Another guy in another thread had his stuff taken from his dorm room. I think we can all agree that if we caught a thief in the act he'd be lucky to end up in the ICU.

Sorry to hear it, take pleasure in the fact that whoever did it will try again, and eventually get caught, then spend some years in jail. What a wasted life.

dude, it was the perfect chance to get rid of your Ford. You could have gotten a real car. (read: C[H]evy)

otherwise, that really a bummer. I woulda stuck him in the ICU too, good luck with the Insurance.

I had someone try to steal my Tarus once. They busted the ignition, but nothing else. Now I can take the keys out even while the car is running (The thing that locks the key in, is broke). Also the damn beep goes of anytime the door is open, not just when the keys are in the ignition/lights on.

Can't rememeber who but I had a friend - yes Endymion - his jetta had a key permanently broken inside he used to use a screwdriver to start the car if he forgot his keys 🙂

I would think this would cost more than your deductible - 🙁

I had my brand-new Acura Integra GS-R stolen earlier this year. I got it back in two days 🙂 But it was missing its wheels, engine, tranny, seats, dashboard, airbag, sunroof . . . 🙁

Tee Edwareds, I had a friend who had the wheels jacked on her Integra at her college. Her car was standing on 4 jacks when she walked out! Imagine that!!

Similar thing happened to me in September. My 1990 Honda Accord was stolen, mainly only the ignition was busted, ended up costing me around $1000. Well insurance covered most of it. I'm more upset with the stuff I lost in my car, that was worth at least $500 🙁

Someone tried to steal my friend's Taurus once. The insurance adjuster told him because they have been the most popular domestic sedan for a number of years, there is high demand for parts. They wanted it for the chop shop.

Mister T:

Thanks for asking. I have the BEST insurance company in the industry, USAA. They not only covered my losses, they gave me, without any haggling on my part, a settlement at least $500 above what I was even prepared to ask for. My car was 1 year old and had 13K miles when it was stolen, and they gave me only $400 less than I paid for it, brand new. The personal property in the car was paid for by an additional claim against my renter's insurance, also through USAA. The thieves were even kind enough to leave my Radiohead "OK Computer" CD behind!

Be glad you didn't catch him. The way our law system works, YOU would probably have ended up in jail and the thief would've walked free. :frown:

I had my car broken into back in August. I left it in one of my college's parking lots over night. Next morning I come back and I find the driver's door was pried open with a crowbar and most of my stereo equipment and CDs are missing. The kicker is they ended up taking about $450 worth of stuff so it wasn't worth the $500 deductible and they took the important stuff like my amp and box. If they had bothered to take my CD changer and head unit, which I now can't use, it would have been close to $900. I wish they would have just taken the whole car...it squeaks and rattles and I don't have enough money to fix it or replace my stereo! I felt a lot like you do now Mr. T. For weeks I wanted to beat the crap outta who ever did this and I was really ticked at campus security but there was really nothing I could do.

EDIT: I can't spell...
