My Car got broken into

Well, my Honda Civic 1998 DX got broken into. They stole my GPS (which was detachable so whatever, that's a loss), but they also ripped out my after market head unit.

In doing so, they didn't unscrew anything, so they cracked the actual center dash piece (the piece that encompasses the two vents, the cd player, and the air conditioning controls, etc.)

The buttons are okay, it just seems the actual piece is broken.

Honda Dealer says the part costs $109.17. Junk yard says it might be hard to pull out. Any other options? Aftermarket?

On top of this part, I guess I need a new head unit, too.

edit: my GPS *was* hidden

not too sure why you guys leave the GPS out in cars.. even small time theifs know all you need to do is smash the glass pull it off the suction cups grab the cable and run down the block. even with alarms and stuff but the time people start looking its all said and done.

radios are a LITTLE harder to steal but just the same. I understand the radio, its not exactly in plain sight, a little harder to pull out, invloves damaging things, harder to sell.

Just gotta learn to put stuff away. As for the trim that is damaged, 98 civic's should be really easy to find. ebay has a lot of junkyards that list trim parts should be quick and easy $50 , hell here you go less then 100$ i promise, 3 secs on ebay

please be carefully about how you leave things stored in your car. I have my radar detector and aftermarket radio in my car and i almost always hide them. even if its in the glove box its SLIGHTLY less obvious and a couple people will over look my car and go for the car with the big GPS on the window in plain view...

Do you use a window mount?

Glue the main piece back together and spend the extra on a new GPS. Make sure to just take anything worthwhile out of your car just in case of this, or lock the glovebox.

Chances are they saw your GPS mount on the wind shield, broke into the car for the GPS unit and decided to take the head unit as well. Why your after market head unit doesn't a detachable face is anybody's guess.

No GPS mount on wind shield or head unit without face means next car for the thieves.

Honestly, 109 for a trim isn't that bad. If the junkyard doesn't have it I would just buy it. Usually dealers nail you for stuff like that.
