I am not getting a new car cause I am jsut a student and I don't have a helluva lot of money. Does anyone know if the dodge avenger is a good car? I am looking at a 1995 dodge avenger with 48000 miles on it, and it is 5 speed and fully loaded. The person is selling it for $5000, is it a good car? would anyone recommend it? I don't really know a lot about cars, so I need some help here, oh and if it is a bad car then what would you recommend, and I will probably not do much to the car except put a better stereo system in it.

i don't think it's a bad car. Unless i'm mistaken, it was built on the same chassis as the mitsu 3000gt.

Avenger has been replaced by some newer dodge..can't think of the name now.

overall from my little experience, good car, nice looks, fair power.

You are way off.

The avengers not a bad ride. Not the most powerful but it's decent, i'd probably pick it up.

As I recall, the Avenger is built off the same platform as the Cirrus/Stratus. A guy at work had a Cirrus for a while and he liked it quite a bit. I think if its been well maintainted its prolly a safe bet.

Course, I wouldn't feel right if I didn't suggest you get a Honda. ;)

yes sir, but maybe it's the other way around...the avenger replaced the stealth. I dunno. My neighbor's house cleaner has a sharp looking avenger and has had no complaints despite regular maintenance.

avenger in no way, shape, or form, replaced the stealth. to imply so is an insult to the stealth, one of the coolest cars to come out of detroit, ert, japan, ert... in a long time

I would rather spend $5000 on a honda, check kelly blue book and see what they value it for. If they value it for higher than $5000 I would wonder about the car

I must agreee, I would recommend you to a proven realiabe (sp) car because once you grad from college you going need the $$$ to pay off your loans.... well I least you don't have to worry about getting/fixing your car latter.

What about a ford escort zx2 1998 model? I saw one of those for about the same price, and it looks pretty good to me. Are those good cars?

with $5000 you arent gonna get a good honda, period. You guys do realize that the only civics that could be picked up would be 1990-1992(assuming ok condition). Personally, i would NEVER feel safe driving a car that old. Plus, repair bills. American cars are cheaper on repair bills.

That price on a 1995 is great. Low blue book on it is $6000. You may wanna pick it up just to resell :)

reliability

The Avenger is a decent car overall. The only real problem they have is with head gaskets on the 4 cylinder cars. See if it's had a head gasket replacement recently and be sure to look for the signs that it may be failing. Other than that, it looks like a pretty good deal to me.

They are nice little cars. A lot of mazda parts and engineering with a ford badge slapped on the front. Decent pep for a 4 banger, pretty good gas milage, and pretty dang reliable. The only ford to make consumer reports "recommended" list.

They are a good bargain compared to honda's and toyotas. Not quite the history of the jap cars, but the $3,000 you save off the sticker price can pay for a lot of *could be* repairs. Don't let the ford nameplate scare you.

I personally would go with the Zx2 over the Avenger. I've got a VERY low opinion of Dodge vehicles, so I'm not the most unbaised person you can talk to about them ;)

Honda/Toyota are very reliable but overpriced.

Check out a used Chevrolet Prizm (rebadged Toyota Corolla but without the extra $), Mazda Protege or Nissan Sentra for an affordable, reliable car.

I would HIGHLY recommend against getting that car. *I* would invest in a good used Honda Accord..

I thought it was Geo Prizm & once GM axed Geo they no longer used the Corolla?

ripoff's.. to get a good honda accord you have to spend more than you would on other cars. Sure, they're very reliable for their age but you pay more for that! You could spend the same money on a newer car.

Yes it was originally the Geo Prizm but when GM axed Geo, the car was renamed Chevrolet Prizm.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
