Well it was working great until yesterday morning. Honda 99' C-RV started shaking every 8th of a mile. I opened the hood, and a gremlin popped out and ran away. Now it turns out the transmission is bad.

Wife and I are going to look for another Honda, we have about $20k limit, and I trust the experts here at ATOT for advice! I don't have a big family and am just lookin for a two door vehicle with good MPG rating.

Any recommendations, fellas?

Anyone have any experience/thoughts on the 2007 Fit?

Good little car. Excellent interior room + mpg goodness.

Yup, fix it. How much was the estimate? It's generally cheaper to keep and fix what ya got.

I'd probably fix it. I'm at 139k on my '99 Accord and I'd get a new transmission if it went.

20k for a used car? The transmission will probably cost a lot less to fix. Get a second opinion on the transmission and have the car gone over and see what they say about the rest of it. If things don't look too good all around then replace it. But if it is just the transmission I'd vote fix it.

Altima coupe would be my first choice if it was out already. Accord coupe or Solara can be had nicely equipped for that price. Or you can go for a Civic EX or Scion TC (a bit smaller but pretty much fully loaded).

great car for the MSRP.

BUT... you can't buy one for MSRP. at the $18K+ you'll pay for one (plus fees and taxes), there are much better options. i bought my current-gen certified Accord V6 for less than they were asking for Fits.

My thoughts too. Honda has long been known for having crappy automatic transmissions...not sure if they fixed their issues yet or not.

And LOL at responses...I can only imagine the pitchfork toting mob that would come out should someone post about the transmission failing on an 8 year old domestic...

My 93 accord is at 161k and running great, getting 48.5 cents per mile and driving it normally 2-3k miles per month is awesome.

Course now I have a 2005 mustang, but I keep the accord to make money off it.

Agreed. Great solid car that you KNOW will last 200K+

Gee, I bet he was told that about his HONDA CR-V too. :D

I'll check out the Accord. We thought about getting it replaced, but the trade in value is only about $6000 ($2000 more than a new tranny). The mechanic said something about damaged gear teeth, so I think fixing it is out.

$2500 for a trans
$20K for a car

Why go into debt and just have the trans fixed and save yourself $17,500 and a $300+ car payment for 5 years?
