Roger that. I can translate Cantonese with 80-90% accuracy. Some of the finer points of the language elude me but that's probably because I haven't ever stayed in Hong Kong more than 3 weeks at a time.

I kinda speak "hoi-sahn-wah", and cantonese, so I guess that counts. I say "kinda" because I am a jook-sing too. I fumble with my inferior "ABC" chinese very often.

Actually, I'm very scared of asian women for that reason. They might just use you for citizenship or they'll kill you while you sleep. Not that American women wouldn't do that either, but the chance is lower...Think about it this way smack, at least they won't disown you if you marry someone that's not chinese

personally i think mandarin is a more lyrical language than cantonese, so is japanese, and korean...cantonese people always sound like they are yelling at each other hehehe

I always see "chinese" schools ( = mandarin schools) in the US but i don't see cantonese schools

two reasons:

1.) mandarin was made the official language of china by the communist government.
2.) there are just more people in the mandarin regions in china in the first place

i don't think mandarin sucks though, it's kind of silly to say that a language sucks. i think that was meant to be a joke.

Ehhh...I live on the east coast. More FOB's over on the west side, so therefore, there's less mandarin here and more people who speak cantonese...
