My calculator was stolen today

So, I go to my 6th period Algebra II class today, and used my TI-84 Plus calculator, which I bought YESTERDAY. Went to 7th period Spanish, and about 1/2 way through the period, I went into my backpack to get a book. Calculator was still there.

Went to 8th period, and got let out 30 minutes early for a pep rally. Outside the football field, the security guards were stopping people with backpacks, and making them leave their backpacks outside. Since I had my backpack, I was told to do this. So, I opened my backpack to take OUT my calculator so it would not be stolen. But, the calculator wasn't there.

Therefore, the calculator must have been stolen during my 8th period english class. I put my backpack down in the class about four minutes before the class started, and then went right outside the classroom to talk to some friends. Other then these four minutes, the backpack/calculator was not unattended.

Any ideas? I filled out a theft form at the office, but we all know those don't work.

Heh. I always CARRIED my calculator in High School.

It now stays in the bag with the laptop. We're VERY good about theft at my school, people leave laptops unattended and out on tables, running, all the damn time. I won't leave the same room as the bag (unless I'm leaving it in a trusted place, either in the basement or behind the helpdesk), though.

Yeah, too things:

1. Like said, mark that sucker for what it's worth. Burn your name in the plastic. Whoever stole it wouldn't be as prone to steal from you again.

2. Don't leave it in your backpack. In fact, given what happened to you I wouldn't leave anything valuable in your backpack. Keep it in your pocket. If you don't have big enough pockets or enough of them buy some new pants that do.

Sorry it happened to you. I know, it's a bummer! :(

You did not lose your head. So what is the problem.

Your higher quality calculator is still with you.

it was stolen, because of your paranoia. Maybe if you hadn't gotten your calculator out every hour of the day, other people wouln't notice that you even had a calculator. Other people wouldn't even think its valuable, but you made it valuable, and now you pay the cost

I was planning on marking it, since people have tipped me on doing that around school, but this was the first day that I'd brought it to school, so I hadn't gotten around to it yet.

I wouldn't leave it in my backpack, but the Ti series are big as hell, and I already carry my iPod and my cell phone in my pockets, in fear of them being stolen, so there isn't much room for a giant calculator.

Luckily, some ass on my bus who goes around stealing calculators will sell me a bit beated up Ti-83 for $20 on monday. That'll have to do.

Unless you're one of those "hipsters" that goes around wearing womens jeans, it can easily fit in a back pocket. My Ti-89+ fits fine in mine.

The trick is to keep the outside of the calculator coated in a contact poison, and then always use gloves when handling it. Also, install a lojack tracking system.

Eh, thats true, but how comfortable must it be to sit with a giant calculator on your ass? Let's be practical here...theres no way I'm gonna go through the next three years of high school (I'm a sophmore now) carrying a calculator. I guess I COULD go back and forth to my locker when I needed it, but that's just so inconvienent. What a PITA...fuggin calculators.

Here's an idea. When you go to sit down, take out the calculator and put it on the desk. When you go to get up, put the calculator back in your pocket.

I think it would be a lot more likely for me to lose the calculator that way (ie, at lunch) then getting it stolen from my backpack/locker.

If your going to lunch, why would you carry it with you anyway? Why not just put it in your locker when you don't need it?

You're making this MUCH more complicated than it has to be.

Haha, if it were cheap and viable I'd do it ;)

I've had one of mine stolen as well and it pisses me off, that's another $100 or whatever out of my pocket because someone decided they could take mine...

Mine fit just fine in my front pockets and was comfortable all day long. However, mine is an 89, which was on the smaller chassis - not the fat-and-cute one that's been adopted by the 84 and 89Ti.
