My cable bill is OUT of control!!!!

Check this out. My latest cable bill is a whopping 137.99 :Q

This is with digital cable, HBO and high speed Internet (Road Runner). This is getting a little insane. How much do you pay for cable? Got any ideas how to get the bill down? I don't want to give up the bandwidth I enjoy with Road Runner. Although I think the digital cable is just a gimick and HBO sucks.

I once heard of someone getting just basic cable for $15 per month. Is this really possible?

Yes, Cox basic analog cable is $17 a month for me and I get $10 off my cable internet for having it.

Get rid of digital cable and HBO. I pay less than $100 a month for regular basic and Internet. You might be able to get a better deal by threatening to cancel, but you better be willing to actually cancel. Can you get satellite?

Do you have a DVR?

You live in Verizon territory - are they doing FIOS near you yet? 5/2 for $35 a month. They're rolling it out here and suddenly my cable company is offering cable modem (7/1) for $35 a month.

I think I pay about $50 a month for extended cable. Basic cable is I think about $10 here, but it only includes the very basic channels (pretty much what you would get with an over the air antenna). I think it might be just $5-10 to upgrade to digital cable here, which I've considered since I could then get channels like Fox, TNT, and a few others in hi-def, whereas I only get PBS, CBS, ABC, and NBC in HD right now. I'm not a fan of the interface of it though (I've had it before, as well as their HD package and others).

I used to pay $85 for extended cable and Internet. I have DSL now though.

I was paying 139.99 for digital/HD cable, HBO and Roadrunner.

Dropped HBO and it's now 110.

We have 1 non-DVR HD box, and 2 regular digital DVR boxes.

Freaking ridiculous.

I had the same problem, although I did immensely enjoy having two HDTV PVR boxes and getting everything. My cable company was going up another $8 a month so I was going to be paying ~$93 a month for TV and another $28 for my Internet connection. I dropped back to basic cable at $11.50 a month and kept the Internet. I don't really miss it except when I could be watching a sports event in HDTV.

I pay $96 for high speed internet and digitial cable. I rent the digital reciever and I own my modem. It comes out to something like $45 for each plus taxes. I bet if you dropped HBO it will probably get to be around $100.

Do you have an tv with an HDTV tuner? If so you could probably get a lot of stuff for free. Between the major networks, they broadcast a good portion of sports. I'm able to get them in HD for free.

Comcast digital w/ HD-DVR and internet. $41.77

But that's because my landlord pays for basic cable = $45. I pay the difference for the extra service. And then I'm on the $19.99/mo for 6 months with the internet. I'll hate life when my 6 months runs out.

HD DirectTV on one set, HDTivo on another set, and one additional set. All three have the premium plus package. $66.00 a month.

Internet thru cable = $42.00 per month.

please, your bill is lightweight.

$69/month for DirecTV with Tivo plus one other reciever, HBO, local stations, and all the science/Discovery channels. $45/month for high speed internet.

0.00

No way in hell will I get a cable bundle and compromise my DSL-O-Rama. If it's not shown on standard channels, I Torrent it.

I live close enough to only one HD station.

Wow, you're taking it in the cornhole worse that I *was* with Charter Comm.

Ditch the digital and HBO.

I pay $63 for Basic Extended Cable (No box, digital, HBO other crap) with 8mb/512 Internet.

Cable sucks even if the internet is faster than DSL.

Dish Network with 1 HDTV dual tuner DVR and another DVR (basically 3 DVR's), all the networks in HD plus 25 other HD channels plus the top 180 for $85/mo. Verizon DSL 3000/768 for $29.95/mo. Watching sports in HD is the shnizzle.
