My burnt '2 teeth-less' ram works!

Last time when I took out the ram, I put it back in wrong way. When I realized it, the ram was damn hot that the sticker on the back of the ram was burnt. I thought RAM was dead; even worse, it was missing 2 'teeth' as you can see in the picture. As expected, the ram didn't work when I put it back in. Well, I kept trying with tiny bit of hope, then it worked! Nowadays, whenever I take out the ram and put it back in, I just need to try around 10 times for it to work.
I'm thinking it's because those two missing 'teeth' are stuck in the memory slot of the motherboard and that it's able to make the contack with the ram 1,2 times out of 10. Well, that's the only thing I can think of. Does anybody have better explanantion?

I don't even know how I managed to do it. I just put it and pressed it and it wasn't even difficult.

Your guess seems quite right. The slot in the MB where the ram fits has pins which stick out a bit further. They kind of have a spring action.
From the picture you can notice that though the RAM has lost the external contact terminals (teeth) the pins on the memory slot still manage to come in contact with the underlying solder layer over which the contact terminals sit.
This may explain why your probability rate is 2 out of 10 times. :)

You burned pins 85 (+2.5V) and 77 (+2.5V I/O). Those supply pins are duplicated several times throughout the DIMM.

yea sometimes damaged stuff still works. my m/b recently released acrid burning smell. one ram slot stopped working.

Pins 85 and 77 are ones you burned.
They are 2.5v and 2.5v I/O.
There are also other pins which are 2.5v and 2.5v I/O, for example they could be pins 3 and 25.
This means you don't NEED pins 85 and 77 because other pins can perform the same task, as there are more than one 2.5v and 2.5v I/O pins. (Maybe for this purpose).
