My burner is not recognizing CD-RW's

I have a 16/10/40A Plextor Cd burner, and it has always recognized CD-RW's until now. I am using Nero 5.5 with the latest update as well. I'm not sure what happened, but it doesn't recognize it anymore. I checked the ASPI layer, and it was missing so I installed it thinking that would work. Well, no. I know in EAC I had to tell it to use an ASPI layer other than Windows, but do I do this as well?
 
did you check different brands? My dell did n't recognize the 16X CDRW disks, but worked fine with 4X.
