I have just finished up 2 weeks of testing my budget HTPC that I made a while ago.

All I really need is a better case and bigger hdd.

Specs:

AMD XP1800+
Asus A7S8X-MX
Sapphire Theatrix
MSI FX5200-TDI128LF
640 megs DDR 333
40 gig Maxtor ATA133
SBLive! 5.1
LG DVD player
TDK DVD 440N burner
logitech Z640 5.1 speakers
OS: WinXP MCE2005

so far working great. No problems recording TV and TV display is just great on my Toshiba A2750 27" set.

Tonight I am going to record the 1951 Scrooge AKA "A Christmas Carol" that has been fully restored. :Q

I've been thinking about doing this myself.... Quick question: does windows MCE allow you to actually burn everything you record to a normal DVD? Is there a way to export? If not, then it's pretty much useless and wouldn't even be as good as a VCR (where you could take the tape to someone else's house if needed).

I have never tried burning to a DVD.

However, recording to a .ms-dvr then convert it to mpeg2, I can then author what ever I want.

What was the total price? How legit is your copy of MCE?
most of the parts were already kicking around here.

Tuner + motherboard was under $200.00 CDN.

Video card was $55.00 brand new.
