My buddies and I are setting up a small online store

We were going to use paypal to accept credit cards, although they charge quite a bit.

I was looking through paypal's site and saw that they can actually generate much of the code for your items and purchase handling. Should we go for their option or is there anything else out there that might be better? - I would like to spend as little as possible setting things up.

I have never ventured to slashdot. I find the AT crowd (ATOT and P&N exempted) to be a very nice courteous crowd that provides me with great answers to my questions.

You'd be suprised. If you change your paypal account to the premiere business type, the interest % will be about the same as if you had a merchant account somewhere. The major drawback with using paypal in the past was the fact that the user had to have a paypal account or sign up for one at the point of sale. Now, they allow credit card transactions without having to sign up. Pretty sweet.

I've set up several X-cart gold stores in the last year or so. It is complicated and feature rich, but I would not recommend it for everybody. One of my clients used paypal, and it was easy to set up. PM me if you have any x-cart questions. I don't know much about cube-cart or any of the thousand other cart solutions

Why do you think PayPal charges a lot? They are one of the cheapest cc processors out there.

I prefer 2checkout.

Whether you go with paypal, 2checkout, or some of the other popular processors, I'd recommend Nebucart. It's what I use for my www.hawgbuster.com store and it works great.
