ok ... looks like it's either the memory or hard drive. I saved most of the web and mail server files. What else should I save before this thing decides to "tank" again. So far I have /etc/passwd and /etc/master.passwd

I saved the home directory to a tar file. Assuming I have to replace the hard drive, how can I restore the system without retyping over 300 usernames?!

Depends on what system/program you are using.

Did you save the passwd files? Or do they not have accounts on the machine? (duh, wasn't thinking)

The system is up and running right now. I'm afraid it will reboot again. I thought it was odd because the uptime said 1 hour as of last night when I had checked on the system. All of a sudden it kept rebooting today.

I saved /etc/passwd and /etc/master.passwd

How can I import those two files (do I have to use both files) into the new setup, assuming I have to reinstall onto a new hard drive.

It should be as simple as dropping those files in place, but check around the documentation. FreeBSD might have a doc on that.

Try using Linux instead, it doesn't have those nasty stability problems.

;-)

j/k, my bet is on RAM or power... its on a UPS right? test the UPS? swap power supplies?
