I am not a fan of drinking... I like having some wine with a meal or a couple scotches by the fireplace while watching the hockey game... I don't like taking 5 shooters in a row getting plastered, having a dozen more, etc...
My brother is 32 and is a 14 year drinking veteran... he can take anything, while I will probably be out of my gourd in 5 or 6 drinks... I don't want to go on the trip to get drunk. I don't want to offend my brother either. What do I do when they start throwing drinks at me? I am pretty stubborn and will be able to say no... I may have a few but after that my sense of judgement may be out of whack... I don't think not going to the bars is an option, what would be the point in going to the stag?

btw, the point of a stag is not part of the discussion but I think they are dumb IMHSOTNRLT :)

btw #2, one of the main reason I don't drink is because of my brother... seeing him get home with his drunk buddies and hearing the stories that him and his friends like to recite constantly, were
a big influence why I don't drink. My mind is foggy and slow as it is, I don't need anything to assist it :)

Best way to go is just say "Nope, I've had enough." Keep your glass/cup filled and just don't drink out of it. Keep talking... don't give yourself time to drink.

BTW, I saw Rush this weekend in Chicago. Peart was a machine. Great show.

rgwalt - My problem is that I drink fast :), be it a soda, water, cooler, coffe... I drink all fluids fast, I am sure if I was nursing a drink it would be drinking like a normal person :p I think Peart is a machine :)

We are walking distance from the hotel so driving is not an issue.

PsychoAndy - It's very easy to say no... It's just that I am dealing with people on a mission to get me drunk!

Go off on your own to get drinks and order water with lime and tell everyone they're gin and tonics.

Simply tell them no and remind yourself how dumb they look trying to get you to do something you simply won't do. Let them know that your staying sober works to their benefit and keeps them from doing really stupid shizznit while they're drunk. Retain a minor level of disgust at their behavior. Then it'll be easy. :)

Don't be so worried about it. He's your bro! He won't let anything too terribly wrong happen to you, unless you honestly don't trust him. THat would suck...
This reminds me of Kyle from Road Trip. He finally let loose a little and long story short, ended up with cheetah print thongs the next morning. (that's a good thing)

Dolemite69 - Please define "too terribly"? :)

I am also going to take this oppurtunity to announce that Rush Quiz #5 will be delayed until the following weekend since I will be out this weekend trying to fight the booze that is flying towards me :p

The suggestion for water with lime is great, however, you should get sprite with lime. That way there can't be any doubt without someone actually trying it.

I'm glad that I'm not the only one who thinks that Peart *might* be an android.

rgwalt - Good idea... I am going to have so much fun with these drunks :p.

Actually, I don't think a robot could even play like Peart... he must be an extra-terrestrial being or something :p
