<< SuperTool - Yup only to 85 :) >>

That was a government regualtion for a while. Same reason that almost every car in the 80's had an 85mph speedo. Same with the early 5.0 stangs.

Yup. It started in 1979. I have 2 Chrysler Lebarons (coups), a 1978 and a 1979. The '78 has a 100 mph speedo and the 1979 has the 85 mph speedo.

The idea was if your speedo could only show 85mph then you wouldn't drive faster because you would think it couldn't go over 85 mph. Politician's logic at its best. It was stopped some time in the mid-late 80's. My 1987 Crown Vic has a 120 mph speedo.

The GNs is one of my dream cars. I has the chance to test drive one before and I couldnt believe it, I couldnt wipe the grin off my face when I was driving it. 86-87 was the best years for the GN cuz they have a intercooler. GM rated them less HP than the Vette cuz they didnt want a Buick beating their flagship sports car on paper, but Car and Driver or Motor Trend did a shootout between the two and the GN was faster in the 1/4 mile than the same year Vette.

Too bad GM axe the RWD G-bodys (Monte Carlo, Regal, Grand Prix and my personal car the Cutlass Supreme) in 87. The only other car that had the 3.8L Turbo is the rare 89 Pontiac TransAM Pace Car. Same engine as the GN but with a F-body frame.

Here is a website to check out:

Actully the GNX's ran around 13.2 - 13.5's peding on the driver. GNX's are great dragstrip cars but the Mitsu 3000GT VR4 would hand lay a smack down on the GNX in the twisties.

Yeah but getting down to a dragstrip is a one night deal for $20, getting on a track is a entire new ball game, that many people don't make it too, and when they do they usually break something, you don't know how many guys I see leave Steamboat, meade and 2nd creek with something busted.

Edit: AND if you wish to run in a class where you're allowed to pass, forget that stock appearing car... you now have a roll bar in it... mega fun for getting people into the back seat ;)

Almost as ugly as notFred's car....and dang fast, to boot.
:D
The body shop near where I live has a Cutlass parked out friend and everytime I see it , I HOPE it's a GN b/c it's black and has a custom hood and a few other embellishments. I imagine it's got some good stuff going under the hood, even if it's not a true GN.

you are a fool.

That would be like calling a toyota supra driver a slanty eyed rice eating charlie. Then again, i'm not suprised you said that, it just shows you are an ignorant stupid moron.

If you'd like me to scour the mullet web pages and make a collection of pictures and references to 80's muscle cars, I'd be more than happy to...hehe.... You are obviously offended by this...

I love that style of GM rear-drivers. The GN, the Monte Carlo, love 'em. One of these days I'll have the time and money to have a nice muscle car like that. Actually, I think I'll be saving for a 1968 L-89 or L-71 'Vette. (The L-88's are nice, but a little too hard to live with since they don't have a choke or a radio and require 103 octane fuel.)

GN's are very nice, and in these here parts are rare but not all that rare. I had one friend with one and another with a t-type.

I just punched in Grand National in Auto Trader to see what I would find and found them from $2500 to $39,500.
