My brand new GF4 Ti4200 - Horrible Performance!!

Okay, here's my system:

1.33ghz Tbird
Epox 8K7A motherboard
512MB PC2100 Ram
Gainward GF4 Ti4200 64MB
Windows XP
29.80 Detonators

In SOF2 I get on average 60-70 fps... but when there's a lot of action, or I'm outdoors, it drops to like 30 fps!!! And this is only in 1024X768 32bit color... with NO AA or anything.

I turned off sidbanding and fastwrites via Riva Tuner... but should I still get this kind of performance?

I got 8116 in 3dMark 2001 in 1024X768 32bit mode... with the games on High detail.


So, anything I am doing wrong that is limiting the performance of this video card??

Um, i wouldn't exactly call 8000+ 3dmarks "horrible" performance...it sounds right to me considering your CPU.

As for SOF2, maybe turn some details down or something. You obviously have some kind of performance killer enabled.

you're cpu isn't that great anymore too...i have a P4 2.4ghz and Geforce 3 Ti200 which is a pretty good setup and Jedi Knight II gives me fps around the 60s and that last level on yavin just kills everything...so yeah these newer games are pretty taxing if you turn everything on

Its begging for an overclock. Hehe, but seriously though, Get a faster CPU, thats whats holding you back.

And 8000+ 3d Marks isn't bad at all.

your system is almost the same as mine except that I have a MSI KT7266 pro and a gforce 4200 128 MB chaintech GT21, thing is I am installing the video card right this moment so I wwll post my results as soon as possible!

You could try the latest AMD AGP driver for your board & WInXP from here .

I got 8216 I am happy though I like the 3dmark SE it has some cool stuff check out the demo! OH yea I will OC soon! LOL

With stock card and 28.?? drivers, I got 8500, so an overclock will definitly do you some good.

SOF2 is a very processor intensive game so you should expect slowdowns if you don't have a fast CPU. My system is much more powerful than yours and it still sometimes slows down to the high 40s in certain situations. I run the game at 1152 x 864 x 32 with max details (no anisotropic or shadows though).
