My brakes squeal

My brakes squeal when i drive my car. It only does it when i'm not applying the brake. If i do hit the brake, the noise will go away.

Time to check the wheel bearings, and brake pads.

find a place that inspects your breaks for free, and bring them your car.

it's possible the spring that frees the wheel from the brakes is broken/fallen/gone/b0rked.

good luck, and find a local mechanic you can trust. and is cheap.

from now on, always drive with the brakes on to keep them quiet.

ok, just kidding....perhaps the wear indicators are starting to engage. yep, time for a checkup with the brake shop.

If it was the brake pads they should squeal louder when you apply the brakes... not release them.

Sounds like maybe a wheel bearing, possibly a heatshield in the way?

take out your wheel, put antisqueal grease between the pad and the little shim .. the shim sits between the pad adn the caliper.

Or the caliper bolts (well, not sure what they're called but the part that slides and the that the bolts go through) could need grease as well.

The last time I heard something like this was from a friend of mine. Aparently one day he pulled his e-brake and it like...exploded. Eventually it got caught in all the different mechanisms in the brake system. He was due for a change anyways, his pads were completely worn away and his drums were...falling apart.
