My box thinks it's 128C ambient and CPU

The motherboard had alwyas been reporting the wrong temperature (mid 70s despite the fact that I know it is running at ~34c) but this is beyond just a minor bug I could safely ignore, because now my OS won't boot due to overheat protection. I've had it suggested that the temperature diode may be busted, but I'd like a second opinion before I try and figure out how to replace it. Normally, I'd just replace the board because it's a cheap piece of junk, but I am having a money situation. It's also been suggested that I might be able to open-circuit it so it thinks it's constantly -128C instead. Any opinions on this?

check your motherboards manufacturers website for a bios update. the cpu calibration may not have been adressed in your bios version.
