He told me right before he left today. He needs to talk with me tomorrow but he won't tell me about what.

The reason I'm scared is business is slow right now so I doubt it will be about a raise. The only thing it could be is lay off. Lay offs tend to happen on Fridays.

But I'm also confused if I do get laid off because I have taken / given extra responsibilities since 4 employees were laid off earlier this year and another one left on her own last week and they seem to like my work.

Take a gun with you tomorrow.

On second thought, don't do that.

Before he gets a chance to talk tell him it's been the worst night/morning of your life. Your dog died, your girlfriend/wife cheated on you with your best friend, your multimillionaire aunt left you nothing in her will, etc....... Then look at him all pissed of and ask what it is he wanted to talk about.

My sympathy. That's honestly a terrible thing for your boss to do to you.

I know. The biggest thing that changed at work for me is 2 weeks ago, I told my boss that my wife will be having a baby in 3 months. That means the company will have to pay a higher health insurance premium for me to cover the baby. Since my boss is penny pinching right now due to slow business, I think he will try to can me because I will cost more on the company health insurance.

No matter what happens tomorrow, you will be in a happy place in the near future. Shit, that could go on a fortune cookie. I'm awesome.

I would not mind a promotion without a raise if I can still keep my job.

And I have a hard time thinking who would file a complaint against me.

That is an epic fail of leadership. You never let people stew like that, no good can come from it.

Earlier this year when the lay offs happened, my boss let me know 2 weeks before it happened and told me who he was letting go. I felt bad for the 2 weeks knowing the 4 people would be gone soon and I couldn't tell them anything.

oh, one of those "promotions."

IF the company is that thin, and you are already doing 4 people's work, I think chances are equal that they need to talk to you about taking on more responsibilities, or, at least, some new structure to your position.

I've had friends in this situation that seem to be the last ones standing and had already known the company was going down in flames, so while already looking for other jobs during some weeks or months, they still get the boss begging them to stay.

Or, maybe he just wants you to come in on Saturday. be sure to duck out by 4pm tomorrow, so he never has that chance to tell you. (oh, it's gonna be a full day on Saturday, not a half day--in case you weren't sure)

What a shitty thing to do before you go home. He has to know how much grief this is causing you.

Down to 2 people in my department now including me. I'm going to be honest, even if my department is down to 1 person, it's doable because of the current work load. So chances are it's not going to be good for me.

I also just thought about something. Usually he doesn't check up on me. But ever since last week, he would always ask what I am doing.

I imagine you are only saying that because you feel your job is at risk.

Also, I don't think you'll be laid off.
