I passed mine while I was in the crapper. So I couldn't tell what size it was since it was floating around with all the brown stuff :D

I can tell ya...it was the worse and most painful experience!

Not long, but for 2 week before that my nuts were hurting like heck and I couldn't sit. The passing process itself was not bad...I think it was already broken up.

the worst pain was when the stone broke away from my kidney and floated down. I thought i was gonna die that night. I ended up being driven to the hospital because i couldnt move without extreme pain.

surgery = $$$$

passing it on your own = free

Plus, when you go to the docs, they give you a cool strainer to catch it with :D

i knew my doc was shortchanging me! :D

you can also have surgical removal...it's actually not cutting into you, it's like some sort of external sonic shock that breaks up the stone via sound...but those are only done if you have a massive stone. If it's small enough, your doc will tell ya to suck it up and be a man. they also have drugs that will break up that stuff..but I don't like to be drugged up.

Heh me neither but if it hurts as much as everyone is saying, I think I would make an exception.

I think mostly diet, but maybe in addition to genetics.

I know cuz I eat lots calcium rich foods which leads to stones. Foods like tofu and stuff.

Let me get this straight.
He has to pass a 5mm stone about the size of a pea from his kidneys to his bladder, then through the prostate into the urethra and out?
It feels painful just to think about that.

i remember reading about what causes kidney stones awhile back. doctors arent exactly sure what causes them, but i know they say if you have em once you have a greater chance of it reocurring :Q

Yea these are bad, my dad has passed like 5 or 6 of them. I've never ever seen my dad cry till the day he was passing one. It was like a revelation. I sure hope genetics don't fit into the equation that much.

I give so much morphine to patients that have stones, they are the male version of giving birth.
