This thread title is probably nothing new to any of you, your bosses are probably morons too. Anyways... here's my story.

I work at a local restraunt, the employee's are primarily teenagers (Cheap labor, not a bad mood on my boss' part). One of our Hostesses just quit today, she got another job. Another takeout girl/hostess of ours is also quitting soon because she is going back to high school and is involved in sports and is worried that she won't have enough time for her schoolwork/sports and work.
But I'm not finished yet. Those are just the people who aren't leaving for college, we have another Hostess who's going away for college. So here is the count so far.

3 of 8 hostesses/takout girls are now gone... leaving us with 5 hostess/takeout girls.
(reminder... 3 other takeout/hostesses are going to college locally, and won't be able to work as much.)

Those are just the girls who work out in front... now here is that stats for the cooks (aka - the guys). We have a total of 8 cooks. Two of them are going away to college, to the same college, so they're going to leave at the same time.

so 2 of 8 are gone.

Another is quitting because he's moving and two of us are going to college locally which means we won't have as much time...

so once again 3 of 8 are gone.

Now... running a buisness wouldn't you say it's time to hire some people? not my boss... he's a moron, he's going to split the 6 days that we're open between the 5 of us that are left that aren't trained on everything. Some of us cook pizza's, others cook wings and the others cook dinners, so not only do we have to split the time we have to now learn how to cook food that we've never cooked before... Is it time to quit or what? $6.50 an hour isn't worth it.

that's the thing spidey, we're all working harder than $6.50 an hour anyways because we don't have enough cooks on the line as is... so what usually takes two guys to do is now being done by one guy. Fortunately it's kinda working out because usually if wings is busy, dinners aren't or if dinners is busy pizza's isn't, so we can help out with what knowledge we have of the other section of the workplace.

Simple, ask for a raise!

If 2 cooks are gone, you all have to make up for it, so, you all need a raise

That's the normal autumn happenings at a restaurant. Your boss won't start to hire for another two weeks. Why? Because he would rather wait until school starts and people get into the swing of things and are looking for jobs. Most HS kids (again your average cheap labor) doesn't usually rotate into a winter job until after labor day weekend which signifies the end of the vacationing season).
As far as learning to cook new things, learn it. It won't hurt you to spend some time in new things. At the restaurant I worked in when I was in school, these things always had a way of coming back to the good. The more things you can do, the more flexibility you have in your work schedule (both number of hours per week and the days that you work).
Our restaurant lost 30-40% of its employees due to college with another 15% with reduced hours due to age. Its the way that business runs.

what you do is conspire with your fellow workers, and make mistakes all over the place, not SUPER MAJOR ones, but some mistakes... like a burnt pizza, overcooked and dry wings...

the owner would like be wtf is going on. and you would be like, i don't know how to make pizza.

Dont fsck up this guys resturant, it only makes him more pissed. Just band together with the cooks and bus-girls and demand a raise, trust me, he will comply:)
