I have a new boss and I think she hates me. I didn't make a favorable first impression and it snowballed from there. During the first week, she gave me a simple task but I misunderstood thinking that the release was NOT ready to be checked. So she approached me asking what the status is, I gave her a confused look. I felt dumb.

Second week, she debriefed me on a task to complete. It sounded easy from the way she made it sound and I also overheard the problem as she discussed with another co-worker so I was ready to show her. She wanted me to team up with another guy and explain what needed to be done. He ended up wanting to ask her questions so I followed him to her office. I felt dumb again because I didn't ask for enough clarification the first time around and she had to explain what needed to be done again :(

My boss hates me
FUCK!

Look on the bright side - she probably doesn't hate you, just thinks you're incompetent.

Try pretending that your boss is really an old friend from HS and that might ease the relations.

Of course, you'll then have to deal with not having anything to say.

start sending her sexy-talk emails where you tell her that you like to call anal sex "woob woob"... itll help clear the air.

This is a very real possibility...and it's not good for you, but it's not the end of the world.

OTOH, (don't get mad) you do sound new at, or unqualified for, your job.

I manage my department and when I get a new person who doesn't know much, I put them in "training status" with a more senior person...one whom I trust to tell me "how Bob is really doing." I will give "Bob" taskings directly from time to time to test him out and we go from there.

Are you new at your job? How was your performance w/your last boss? If you really DO know your job and just can't understand your new boss' requests, just tell her. But be PC about it. I.E. "I know I've not been doing the best job lately but it's not for lack of trying. It's just that sometimes I'm not sure exactly what you want me to do. I really want to do a great job. Would you please explain things in more detail/a little slower to me?"

Something like that would make me happy to hear from a "problem child." :)

In a small shop, porking the boss will get you nowhere, fast. Everyone will INSTANTLY know what's going on. If it's a small shop, you can't get promoted up "just like that" w/o raising attention and even if no promotion is involved, the perception of favorable treatment is inevitable for him.

So no; he should not lay pipe in the bosses moss bog.

you are probably right, she just thinks I'm incompetent

The problem is that I just put too much pressure on myself due to the economy and fear of getting laid off so I overthink and overanalyze. I am new to the job but first impressions are so so important. I don't think she trusts me anymore

I think her simple tasks was her way of testing me and I dropped the ball both times
I am new to the job. My performance w/ my last boss was satisfactory. She just comes up to me and gives me the tasks and I try to register everything in my brain. If she would just send an email, it would be better seeing her directions documented in writing. I just feel stupid and this brings more pressure on myself

You just need to pay attention better. You're so worried about remembering the task that you don't really pay attention to what is being said, and you forget what it is that you're supposed to remember.

First impressions are hard to fix too. It takes like 5 well-done tasks to make up for the one you botched to get you bosss' confidence back. Just take your time and write things down as she's telling them to you.

Are all of your posts always so emo?

Yesterday somebody posted a good dozen or so of your threads and effectively in every single one of them you are whining.

Get a hint: It's not the world, it's you.

If she debriefed you on a task, then she probably was expecting that you had already completed it.
