my boss at work just had a baby girl. should i buy him something?

Hes a cool guy and I just started working for him for about 1 month now.. Its a pretty good job.. I like it.. Should I buy him something for the baby or just not buy nething at all. If I should buy something, what should i get?

a card and maybe a small token gift for his wife (teddy bear, a modest floral arrangement, etc) would probably be appropriate for a co-worker, even if he wasn't your boss.

Something small though, maybe $10-20 tops. You don't want to look like a total suck up, and you just met the guy a month ago.

Go to the baby section in a department store, there are usually gift-basket type things that would be useful. Don't get a teddy bear, babies have no use for them, and pretty soon the parents end up with 2000 stuffed animals in their house. A nice blanket is also a good gift. Babies use a lot of blankets.

I'd go around and ask others to put in a few $$ and sign a card and get a gift certificate to Target or something similar.

When we had our baby (3 months ago) that's what everyone in my office did and it was very much appreciated.

If you are goin' solo, I'd say a card would suffice and maybe a little $10 stuffed animal.

I'd agree with the savings bond thing, but I think they only sell 30 year ones now (though I could be very wrong). Either go the cutesy fru-fru/useless route of stuffed animal or whatever, or the useful route of diapers or something utilitarian like that. Depends on the kind of guy he is. Gift certificate if you aren't sure. Another route is a donation in the baby's name, but to me, that's throwing good money away (like buying Microsoft products).
