My Book World Edition

Ok, I've just ordered a My Book World Edition hard drive to install on our network and throw backups to it. They'll be rather large image files (10 to 25GB), but now I'm reading that the drive is FAT32 only? What the hell? If I can't write 4GB+ files to it it's useless to me.

Can anyone confirm this?

I had this happen to me recently.
It comes with bloatware that serves as an interface between it and you -- again, format as NTFS: done

It doesn't matter how the drive is connected. All you need to do is format it to NTFS, and then you can put any size file on it that you want.

The USB port if for connecting an extra drive, I haven't tested it yet since it's already plugged into the network.
Wouldn't formatting the drive screw up the NAS software? Or is it in a separate ROM?

From WD's KB:

The WD NetCenter and WD My Book World Edition hard drive uses a proprietary file system and cannot be reformatted as FAT32, NTFS, or a Macintosh File System. The file system on the WD NetCenter and the WD My Book World Edition hard drive supports access from Windows, Macintosh and most Linux based computer systems through a SAMBA network sharing connection.

It seems the My Book World uses a Linux-based OS, with a UNIX type File System available through SAMBA. I've schedule a server backup to confirm if I can do a system snapshot without splitting the archive image file. I'll post back with the results.

Oh my mistake I have a My book but not 'World Edition' -- I see what you mean.
Linux on Fat32 is less than ideal. I'm not familiar with file size restrictions on linux, though.
Good luck!
