My book Cloud upgrade from My book Live worth it?

I have 2TB live now and its working okey on a Gb wired connection. I dont need more space but could use some more speed when viewing pics and vids on picassa.

Any experience using the Cloud?

I dont want any other solution as i am used to WD, and the cost for upgrade is of no importance only if its its worth the trouble.

I am thinking of buying the 3TB model as it looks like the 3TB wd red disk is about 2-4 db more silent than 4TB version (the io is impressive though on the 4TB but it doesnt matter for me).

Any experience on the noise side? - its very important

I just got the cloud 3TB version.

I measure the same speed as the live 2TB. About 36MB/sec write and 77MB/sec read. Probably my router defining speed - or pure random stuff 🙂. So no speed differences for me with bigger files. A disappointment though.

As for accessing vids and pics on the nas using picassa the Cloud seems quite a bit faster. Beeing more users on it at the same times is still giving good speed. It seems a bit more robust.

The software is very easy to access, brilliantly simple, quick and easy to install using a link, and is working faster than on the live.

The noise is a good deal lower on the cloud version. I dont know if thats because of a 3 platter design vs. 4 platter for the 2TB live. The result is that in my living room, at 2 meters distance the cloud mostly aproaches background noise. 3db could make a huge difference here.

I have had trouble with disconnection problems, but now they are sorted out. I can see on wd forum the disconnecting problems is more widespread.

An entry and family product like this needs to have ironed all the small bugs out in firmware before its released imho. I can not recommend this product until it have more mature firmware.
