Earlier this year I decided to lose some weight. I was a hefty 278 lbs at my heaviest and felt horrible. So, I turned to atkins to quickly shed some weight and see if it would help.

It did and I got down to 250 lbs fairly quickly. I then decided to try the maintenance portion to get my body used to this weight and then lose some more this fall to try to get down to 220.. baby steps, baby steps..

So, I've started eating more "normal" foods.. pizza, coffee with creamer, some sugary soda, hamburgers with bun, chips, pastas and am also eating healthier also, more meats, but not really watching my carb intake.

I'm not gaining weight back though. One would think that by eating 3 pieces of pizza and drinking a peach nehi it would not be the healthiest, but I can do this kind of stuff now, maybe have a small bowl of ice cream for desert, etc, and not gain any weight back. I ate that and a big mac for lunch and a cup of coffee for breakfast. My carbs are high, but I'm not gaining it back. Just seems weird to me as I've been eating like this now for a couple months with no weight gain.

I'm ready to start the initial ketosis phase of atkins again though.. just some musings...

It's all about calories in vs calories out. Keep those macros in check.

Start weight lifting if you are able.

This brag thread intrigues me. Maybe it IS true that the Atkins diet reprograms the way your body handles macros.

I have a similar problem. It's very difficult for me to gain weight. I've been intentionally eating way more than I used to in order to bulk, but since late January, i've gained 2 pounds.

The odd thing is, normally I pack on pounds if I even look at a piece of pizza or a soda or whatever. /shrug. I need to lose another 30-50 lbs to be where I want to be and it isn't going to happen by itself, so I need to start back up.

I'm not familiar with the lingo.. What are macros?

Just to point out, the foods you're saying are "more normal" really aren't normal at all in any healthy diet. They're a very rare treat, not to be incorporated in daily or weekly foods. It's great that you've lost a fair amount of weight so far, but you're not going to get down to your ideal weight or up to your ideal of health if you keep these foods around much.

10-4. I know I need to stay away from those foods, they are so easy to grab and go but make me feel like crap afterwards. Thanks for the advice!

By "easy to grab and go" do you mean that it's easy to buy them when you are out and about and need to eat? Or do you mean that's what is in your fridge/pantry so that's what you eat?

The reason I ask is that I'm trying to determine if you either need to make better choices when out and about at meal time or make better choices when grocery shopping.
