supposedly it's not a death sentence anymore, but more like a long-term manageable illness like diabetes now, because of the improved drugs that are available.

That really sucks. I hope you'll be there for him.

Also, while the drugs have helped many, there is a significant % of people who either do not respond to the drugs, or have side effects so severe they cannot tolerate them.

So it's not as easy going as so many have been led to believe.

Is it anyone's business but his?

I've worked with HIV+ people for years as charity work and having this question pop out of people's mouths first thing is one of the most annoying, and degrading things that can happen to them.

yes it does matter and if the fact that they have aids is public, then why should how they got it not be also. its not like you just accidentally catch aids (not usually, although possible). more often then not it is the result of irresponsibility. if someone has aids because they were being stupid my level of sympathy is not that great as opposed to someone who had no control over catching it.

Again, it's none of your business. The only reason you want to know is so you can judge them and they know that.

"How can one get AIDS?" is a valid question for the layman. But "how did you get AIDS" is not, and none of your business.

Asking someone that question makes them feel like 'Pink' on Trial in "The Wall." It's a horrible thing to put them through.

How they got it no longer matters. Knowing wont change anything for them, or you... except to allow you to judge them. And in that case, it's none of your fscking business.

fine, difference of opinion, which i always seem to have with almost everything you post. how they got aids does matter and in this case they caught it due to irresponsibility. i will never catch aids unless it is out of my control because i am smart enough to use protection. if someone gets shot cleaning their gun it is different then if someone shot them. if someone is fat because they are lazy and eat too much it is different then if their obesity is genetic. if someone is retarded because they smoked crack it is different then if they were born that way.

How they contracted HIV is a valid question for statisticians and doctors. NOT YOU.

You do not want, nor need to know so you can modify your behavior or learn anything you don't already know. You already know how it's transmitted. You want to know so you can judge whether or not they are worthy of your compassion, or scorn. You want to know so you can judge them period.

They don't need to be judged by you. It's too fscking late to change anything. And if you're going to judge them, then you aren't their friend or loved one anyhow.

Again, it's none of your fscking business.

"Again, it's none of your business." If it's none of our business as to how they got AIDS, WHY IS IT OUR BUSINESS THAT WE KNOW THEY HAVE AIDS?
