I just got a phone call with some very bad news. My best friend that I have known since high school is in a coma and may not live. I am going to the hospital tomorrow, right now its hitting me pretty hard. Never had to deal with anything like this before. ATOT prayers are really needed. I hope this doesn't sound stupid, how do you handle something like this. Bring a card or flowers etc? If he was recovering from surgery or something, I would know, but not for someone in a coma.

Very sorry to hear this, man. Don't feel like you need to bring anything. Just offer to pick up coffee, snacks, whatever for the family while you are at the hospital.

That's honestly the absolute best thing that anyone can do in these situations.

Good luck.

That. If you can give people lifts or stay for a while just to give them a break your doing good.

What happened, if you don't mind me asking?

It's up to you to decide to bring something or not but most importantly, go to the hospital ASAP.

Good luck to your friend.

What happened?

He was diagnosed with leukemia and it just turned into meningitis. He has been having strokes I think and even his eyes turned yellow. Its not looking good.

Ah.

Go, support the family. Say all the things you'd normally only say to him if you were happy drunk together.

Now is not the time for macho.

Hugs are good.

This is horrible to hear. My father died from meningitis @ the age of 73.

Just be there for the family, help them out with anything you can. This thing can be exhausting for them and any little thing others might not care about will be huge for them..

I wish them the best and I will say a prayer for your friend, and you.

Like they said show up. I had a friend in a coma when I was younger. I showed up everyday. It meant alot to my friend (once he came out of it) and his family.

Awful. I cannot offer any advice as I have never been in your shoes.

I'm sorry to hear this. I hope he pulls through. My thoughts are with you. Hang in there, and take care of yourself. This too shall pass.

Just show up, that'll mean the world to whoever is there.

Yeh, the friend in the coma will not know until after he wakes up. But his family will appreciate that people are thinking of him. Plus you could always offer to run errands for them as well.

Sorry to hear - good luck at the hospital. Sounds bad, but you never know, these things sometimes work out.

Made it back from the hospital. Been a rough day to say the least. I have busted out in tears quite a few times posting, once on the drive up and once in the ICU room with him. 55% chance to survive, that means he has the odds in his favor. So he WINS. Fuck you leukemia, you are NOT taking my friend. Thank you everyone for the support.

Hey, so while you might see him for this last time, understand that he will always be seeing what you are doing... sure i might get bitched at for this post and the god aspect, but always know that you can make him proud for anything you have done in your life. It's up to you to make yourself happy, but understand that if you are happy, he would have been happy.
