I went over to my parents house today to drop of my digital camera, and they told me the bad news.

Unfortunately, he had been sick for some time but my parents thought it would be best to shield me from the bad news. Yesterday, it finally came to a point where nothing could be done for him, and they had to take him to the vet to be euthanized. He had been my most loyal companion since the age of 10 (i'm 25 now), and I feel absolutely horrible that I couldn't have been there in his final moments.

I write this message with tears in my eyes: RIP to my best friend Tigger, and here's hoping we meet again in the great beyond. :(

I'm so sorry. You have my deepest condolences. I've had to lose a couple pets myself and I know how it feels. :(

I know this is going to sound crazy, but I have no brothers and sisters, so he was almost like a sibling to me. I think that's what is making it so difficult. (that, and I couldn't be there to comfort him in his final moments. :()

I am 36. I have a cat that I've had since I was 19. She's still kicking, but at her age, any day could be the last. I know how you feel.

One of our dogs got into a fight with the others last Christmas eve. I took her to the vet, and they sewed her up. She stayed over Christmas, and we went by the vet on the day after to see about her. He said if she made it through a couple more days, she'd be alright..............she died early that afternoon. Neither my wife nor I have gotten over the fact that we didn't go in to see her that morning.

I know exactly how you feel.

Here is something that was given to my sister when her beloved dog Cheyenne passed away~

THE BEST PLACE TO BURY A DOG
by Ben Hur Lampman (from the Portland Oregonian, September 11, 1925)

There is one best place to bury a dog. If you bury him in this spot, he will come to you when you call - come to you over the grim, dim frontier of death, and down the well-remembered path, and to your side again.

And though you call a dozen living dogs to heel, they shall not growl at him, nor resent his coming, for he belongs there.

People may scoff at you, who see no lightest blade of grass bent by his footfall, who hear no whimper, people who may never really have had a dog.

Smile at them, for you shall know something that is hidden from them, and which is well worth the knowing.

The one best place to bury a good dog is in the heart of his master.

I'm sorry to hear that. It's always tough when a pet -- especially one that you've had for a long time -- passes away.

I am also an only child and I can relate to that. My cat just turned 16 in April. She is blind in one eye and I noticed two days ago that she's missing a tooth. :( I've been debating whether or not we should put her down. She still acts like a kitten and wants to play, but I feel horrible that her health is failing. Also, I'm allergic to her (I didn't find out I was allergic to cats until many years after we had her and by then, I wouldn't get rid of her but still spent much time with her.) so I can't spend much time with her. I used to be able to spend more time with her, but since I've gotten older I only have to be with her for a few minutes before my allergies start to flare up. What I've been doing lately is taking a chair outside and sitting outside with her in the sun. She can walk around and I'll pet her and then she usually lies in the shade for a while. She's been there for me almost all my life and I love her VERY much. I can surely sympathize with you and I'm very, very sorry for your loss. :(

Sorry to hear that.

I have a little dog (dachshund) that I've had since I was 13. She's 13 years old now, and has had a few health problems lately. She was very close to being put to sleep about 6 months ago because her back went out, and she could no longer walk. Vets told us that it was going to take like a $10,000 surgery to help her, and no way my parents or I could afford that. They finally told us that they could give her a few shots, that might work too (after trying to get the $10,000 surgery first of course). We got the shots, and she's been fine ever since. She is getting old though, so I know she doesn't have a whole lot of time left. I dread the day when she goes, because I love my little dog.

Really sorry for your loss N8, though never having a pet (well, except for goldfish that I accidentally killed when I karate-kicked and broke the aquarium) I can't say I know how you feel. Rest in peace Tigger.
