I finally picked up the full version of crysis about two weeks ago, and I've been loving it. I don't get time to play every day, but I've invested several hours into it and I think I'm going to play it again and again.

I was worried that my system was going to hold me back on enjoying the game as much as I could. For that reason I've procrastinated on buying it, thinking that maybe I'd have a chance to upgrade my GPU/CPU before giving in. (Currently 8800gts 640 + 2.5ghz s939 X2 opteron, dx9) I've been totally shocked from the beginning though, as the full version looks way better than the demo and the graphics are gorgeous and totally immersive. I haven't messed with my graphics settings since I installed it, where I decided to give it a try with 2xAA, textures and shaders on high, shadows on low, and everything else on medium. I guess I haven't felt the need, and I've been too eager to play when I get my opportunities to spend any more time trying to squeeze more eye candy out. Very soon I'm going to start messing with them some more using the built-in benchmark tool.

My first question has to do with day/night cycle: Does the time of day pass independent of the story-line? If there's a big camp full of KPA that I don't want to attack in broad daylight, is it possible to camp out in the bushes until dusk?

Second, I'm not totally clear on the stealth aspects of the gameplay. Is there a sure-fire way to take out an enemy without being detected? Seems like if I grab them, punch them, or shoot them with a silencer, any nearby guards are going to notice and get plenty pissed about it. I can tell that this is mitigated by tactics - like how a single silenced head-shot is less likely to be detected than a 20 round burst, but again, only when there's no other guards within sight. Anybody have any tactical suggestions? I'd like to try my next run through as stealthily as possible - slipping past patrols and so on without being detected. I also read somewhere that this approach can change how guards in subsequent stages will behave. Comments? Suggestions?

Also, how adept are you guys at non-shooting combat? Seems like there is quite a bit of leeway for those who wish to punch-out or throw stuff at bad guys - but like I said above, I find that after I punch out the first guy I'm in the middle of a sh!tstorm that I have to shoot my way out of. If you pick up large objects or even KPA in one of these firefights, will they work as a shield from gunfire? I'd like to really develop this part of the gameplay if it's something that can be really useful, as opposed to just gimmicky.

Last question, re: taking down helicopters. I know there's a sweet-spot on the tail where a single rocket will take it down, but I haven't mastered that. Do you want to hit it directly on the rotor thingy, or what? How does small-arms fire work in that area? Any way to take one down without explosives?

OK, that's it. Flame on. ;)

Day/night is not independent from what i've tried
I always play one level for stress testing my GPU and one point i played the same map for over an hour with no change

Heres how you stealth, find a nice spot / trees rocks. get there however way you do INSTANTLY go into stealth mode. DONT MOVE. Look around at the enemies.
Now your energy will start to deplete... start aiming at ones head (crouch or prone) to help. SHOOT. Hide behind rocks/wall. Wait for energy to go up then restealth again and don't move

I wish stealth was not in the game because it made it way too ez mode. I only figured out how to use stealth that well past the rescue level

You don't even need to kill some of them. For some secondary objectives such as getting intel, you can move with cloak to a safe spot, and let your energy recharge by change your suit mode back to armor, then switch back. What I usually do is go into cloak mode, take out binoculars and tag the all the enemy that I see so I can track them with the radar, then stay away. Also, if you do kill one and the rest of them start to attack, you can still go into cloak mode and move away from your last position and hide. Eventually, they will just go back to what they were doing.

> i don't think you can wait around for night/dawn in any of the crysis SP maps. however, It is completely possible to implement this into a map.

> @ the helicopter: yeah various parts of the helicopter take extra damage, and thus you should try to prefer shooting at these spots. It takes around 140 bullets from the SCAR rifle to kill a chopper. Probably less if all your bullets hit a particularly weak spot.

i much prefer my method of sniping people:

while cloaked, zoom in and aim for the head.
before shooting, switch to armor mode. *now* shoot, then switch back to cloaking.

this way, you don't lose all your energy after firing due to cloaking being active :)

yeah ^^^ so right. I picked that up while playing the demo when it was first released. I cringe every time I see videos of someone just shooting without a quick switch to armor mode first. Just line up the shot, press '4', shoot at basically the same time, then middle mouse button and flick to the bottom right. Couldn't be easier!

yea, its stupid not to do that, only because you're going to be visible when you take the shot one way or another..

Thanks for the responses everyone - I started a new game on 'hard' last night and have been going super-stealthy. I'm definitely spending a lot of time in the dirt, but it's worth it to stay alive!

I've also noticed that I don't usually see patrols larger than 2 men, in which case it's a lot easier to take them out when necessary without them getting a shot off. When you're running and gunning and suddenly switch to stealth to try to change it up, it doesn't work so well as you've got tons of guys coming after you already. So far I've taken out two guys who were taking a leak... a feature I didn't notice while in run'n'gun mode.

And I will hit up crymod once I've gotten through the SP. Looking forward to it..
