Well, lately Ive been pretty into online gaming with my ps2. I just bought NBA 2k5, and have been playing NFL 2k5 for a couple months now. Great stuff. Every once in awhile I would get a disc read error, but usually I just restarted my system and reset the cd and it would load just fine.
After awhile that stopped working, until just the other day when it wouldn't read the discs at all anymore. So I do some research, and decided to try and fix the problem myself. I open up the Ps2 and start adjusting the height of the laser. At first everything is going well, it almost reads a cd once, so I make another minor adjustment. I powered it off, then back on.... and then all hell breaks lose. The freakin ps2 wouldn't power on at all now. I tried different outlets, I tried different cables, NOTHING. I checked the power ribbon to make sure I didn't disconnect it, and I hadnt.
So I call up Sony and tell them I have a DRE (disc read error) problem, and ask them whats up. They tell me to ship it to them yatta yatta, and they will fix it free of charge (excluding shipping). Thats great, except I just F'd it up by trying to fix it myself, so when they get it and realize that the power isn't working now they may want to charge me 100 plus to fix it.
In the meantime I decided to go buy a new ps2, and if this one can't be fixed (or atleast for a reasonable cost) then I'd just keep the new Ps2, if it could be fixed I'd return it. I get home late this afternoon, after searching everywhere to find one, pull the ps2 out (careful not to mess up the packaging to much incase I need to return it) and power it on. Well it powers up good.
I set up the regional settings, put in my NBA 2k5 game, and get ready to play online against one of my buddy's. (OH btw, Ive only played the game once so far - when I first go it - so Im dying to play it again).
Low and behold, the Ps2 is telling me to insert a proper playstation or ps2 format disc. So I open up all the instructions manuals etc... only to realize there is no format disc. Turns out its just asking for a proper Ps2 disc (this I realized after doing some searching on google). Well how can this game not be a proper ps2 disc? Its worked before.
I tried loading another game, and it didn't work at first either. So I turn off the ps2, reload rinse and repeat the process a few times. Now all of a sudden my NFL game works, boots up and everything just fine. So I put in NBA 2k5, it works! The game begins to load, so I plug in my ethernet adapter. I look at the screen and its frozen, CRAP!#@ I restart the ps2, and well Im sure you can guess what happens at this point. I pick up the hammer from the table and smash the living sh!t outta the ps2.
Ok well not really, but its telling me to insert a proper disc again! I grab NFL again and try it, and it works. I grab a DVD movie, and it works. But now the one game I want to play NBA 2k5 will not load. Why?
I took it out, checked for scratches/fingerprints. Nothing major. Obviously every CD is going to have a little something on it, but definetly nothing noticeable.
So now Im stuck here with my brand new ps2, and a game that won't load. All I want to do is play one freakin game online! Is that to much to ask for?!?!?! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGG!!!!!
Yes Im frustrated, anyone have some advice?
