My bathroom stinks!

Throwing this one out there because I'm at a loss.

On cold nights my bathroom eminates a sewage odor. I live on the top floor of a garden apt/condo, right under a crawlspace/attic. I had my bathroom remodeled earlier this year, but smell has existed for a few years and seems to be getting worse. My downstairs neighbors don't smell it.

First thing I did was have the toilet seal/ring redone.

I can't identify where the smell is coming from. It doesn't appear to come from anywhere in my apartment. Stuck my nose in the drains and don't smell it. Run the faucets, flush the toilet, still there. The only other thing I can think it could be the pipe venting in the attic space above my unit is screwed. They put in bubble fans on the roof a few years back and that could be it.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

The pipe shouldn't be venting into the attic space. The open end should be above the roof slope.
It should be, but that doesn't mean it is. Could have been knocked loose, or not installed properly when they put in the roof fans.

My condo tends to use the lowest bidders, so not very good jobs. All the storm windows they tacked on suck, etc.

Good point...the vent pipe would be the first thing I'd have checked.

Yes, well, that's the thing when you own your own condo- it's hard to get mgt to do anything. They need to go into the crawlspace and check, and they will always pass the buck to me.

I guess I'll start getting on their case tommorow.

Well, be sure not to mention crawlspace, as that refers to the space underneath a building with raised floor framing. Slab-on-grade buildings, which I assume your includes your condo, have the foundation slab bearing directly on the ground and don't have a crawlspace.

After speaking to some other residents in my building I found out there was a recent plumbing backup a few weeks ago. So, now I finally connect the odor to my building's ongoing plumbing problems. I think the toilet paper fragments outside my building is a dead giveaway...

Mgt says they'll "look into it". I called the Health Dept. They're coming tommorow.
