My audio rack completed!

hey guys, i finally finished work on my audio rack. the project itself was quite easy, but acquiring all the items necessary to build it was the hard part.

none of the major hardware stores (home depot or lowes) carried 10 foot long threaded rod. instead they had 6 foot threaded rods and were approx 20 bucks a piece. I decided to try using pipes instead and clamps to hold up the tables, but the worker at home depot was incompetent and cut the pipes to incorrect lengths (which i hadn't discovered until the next day when i began working on the rack). after i returned them, i stopped by ace hardware and found the same 6 foot threaded rods for 12.50 a piece. unfortunately, ace wouldn't cut the rods (and i wasn't prepared to take the rods to home depot to cut improperly).

eventually, i found a website online, www.fastenal.com, that had a store in trenton and carried 10 foot threaded rods for a price matched (to ace hardware) price of 20 bucks a piece. i asked them to cut the rods in half and also purchased some nuts and washers. they did an excellent job and i recommend purchasing from them if you have trouble finding a place that sells threaded rods.

i know this long, but it was a fun project and here are the pictures (it was a b!tch and a half to put this together):

i'll be happy to answer any questions, if there are any. i used a flat black paint (2 layers on the top).

yea. i'll definitely do that when i get a chance this weekend to stop by home depot or something.
 
What are the shelves made of? It looks like it's basically the metal pipes/rods for the lets and the shelves witting on the nuts or whatever is holding them up?

next...make it into a glass enclosure with glass doors in the front. that would look hot!
 
Not bad, but dont they sell the same this, semi pre-fab? You should upgrade those components you have with better equipment. DOnt tell me you are running your speakers with that jukebox system on the top.

HAHAHAHAHA. i was waiting for someone to comment on that.

parents are probably getting the the hts-700 soon but this jukebox was already there so i moved it to the rack. it doesnt get much use but the rack would look so empty without it.

the next project is a table to house all my dj equipment. that is going to be a lot of fun.
 
Hey, I'm glad to help! 😀

I was extremely happy with how mine turned out, it was easy, cheap and it is far far sturdier than anything I found locally at even 2-3 times the price. It is on par with the high end audio racks IMO but only costs what $100 in materials? Maybe slightly more?

all good man. i completely understand where you're coming from. i'm not the one spending money on upgrading the surround sound for the family room. i already own dj equip in the basement so im not prepared to spend more on a surround sound sys. in any case, my parents will probably purchase one soon.
 
Does your WS TV display normal aspect ratio programs with bars on each side or stretch the picture to fill the screen?

there are different viewing modes. normal puts bars on the sides, the other ones have some sort of stretching.
